Default Help me update the engine list.

Some of you may remember when we made a list of available 1/2A engines a few of years ago. Things have changed a lot since then, so I thought I had better update the list. Here's what is currently on 1/2A all the way! What is no longer being manufactured and what, if anything, needs to be added?

Bipe,
You can take the norvels off the list, mpjets are almost all gone too as are the MVVS and the VA's. The Brodak 049/061 Mk1's will be gone when this batch are sold out as CS has stopped makeing engines, the good news is the Brodak 049Mk2 is a better motor, hopefully it will become available with a throttle.

Oh SMR here in oz :- http://www.smrpl.com.au/_engines.htm is makeing replica olivers in 2.5cc, the cub 1.5cc and a 1cc diesel in limited No's

I'm giving Norvel the benefit of the doubt right now, as SIG still maintains that they are waiting for a batch. I'll take your word for it on the others.

I just noticed that Brodak has Cox Tee Dee .049s in stock for $116 (The picture looks a Medallion .049 or .09 with muffler and throttle ring, though.)

A couple of points-the Letmo Classic is in fact two different engines, both manufactured by MP Jet in the Czech Repubic. The Letmo 0.6 was a replica of the original 1948 radial mount Letmo (there was also a 2.5cc replica of its larger brother of the same era). The Classic 0.6 was derived from the basic Letmo design, but of conventional beam mount and with a few detail improvements. It appears-on information I have from Jiri Kalina-that these MP Jet Classic 0.6's are back in production [do an Ebay vendor search on 'kalina-engines]
He has listed several so far this year. They come in a bright crimson red box rather than the maroon colour of the previouus lot-so I'm inclined to think they are new production. He also lists from time to time the plain bearing MP Jet 1cc diesel-but these are from previous MP Jet production. There has been info info released yet on whether the 1cc MP Jet range will be going back into production.

I doubt that the Italian Cipolla 09 remains in production in any form-these initially appeared in the 70's.

There are some oddball 06, 08 and 10 Enyas out there-all similar in layout-the chunky 05-II style [why Enya would prioduce an 08 and 10 when they produce an excellent 09 is beyond me!]

And there is also-for those prepared to pay a premium for quality-the Ian Russell 0.8cc Oliver Tiger Mini- Cub, and the Schlosser 0.25,0.5 and 1cc twin BB diesel range, all available as R/C if required.

Good idea on the list Bipe Flyer!

That Medallion is a .09 by the looks of it, not a .049. A bit pricey, but it would last with care. Sure is no Tee Dee, as you said.

The picture may be wrong but the Cox # is correct.. #170is the TD.
What ever the pic is of, .049, 09 of possibly a .15, it has a throttle.

I have the Brodak MkII. It has no muffler with it but looks like a Norvel/Wasp would fit.

Sure does seem like we'd of heard something by now doesnt it?..I'm hoping for a comeback myself although I do have a small stash of engines....At least Cox is actually saying their killing off the engine line and heading down electric avenue....Rog

skaliwag,
The Brodak 049 Mk2, have you run it yet ? if so how about a performance report.
Also how difficult does it look to fit an R/C carby to it ?

I havn't had a chance to run one yet.
No muffler... I will have to take out in the country side some where.
Throttle might be difficult.. The venturi is the case, and tapered. Would mean boreing out and there is not much meat there.
What carb could you use?..... The Norvel? Right!! The Wasp is to big. Perhaps the PAW 55 unit but with the Dollar so low and the Pound so strong might get XXX-EEE.

FFKIWI,

I have one of the early Letmo replicas that has the raidal type mount. Later versions have beam mounts.

Have never run it but it seems to be well-built.

Bipe, Good Morning

The Fora isn't a Cyclon, but rather an unauthorized near copy. It is made in Ukraine.

Skaliwag.

The Brodak MKII looks to have nicely cast case. I would think the carb and muffler issues might be solved with a muffler that sported a throttling mechanism.

Skaliwag, that MKII looks from the pic like it'd have enough meat to put a rotating barrel in it as is. Not a separate carb is what I'm sayin'...

There are some close-ups and disassembled shots in the [link=http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dc/dcboard.php]Stuka Stunt Works[/link] forum. Search on Brodak and 049 -- the poster is V12.

The MK II looks to be well made and has a beefy crank. I'm a little surprised it doesn't ship with a muffler -- guess the CL boys are a little more relaxed or they're all a little deaf!!

Just a thought, but would it be worthwhile to take the list Bipe Flyer is updating, make it a sticky and lock it at the top of the forum to make it easier to get to the various websites? Locking it would prevent it from growing into a rather large thread yet it can still be updated periodically, much like RCKen's trainer list in the beginners forum.

Unless you speak Russian, it is too bad that the Cyclon link leads to a dead end. I'll bet more prospective buyers could be had if Cyclon wised up and made their stuff more accessible to the Western world.. At least they could post a link to their importers.
The Profi .049 offered by Jim Booker sounds interesting, he isn't a junk dealer and has many years in product development. A day might come when the only 1/2A engines available are competition style, so no better time to step up to the plate than now.

OK Pigg, Good idea, here's Cyclon's importer. http://www.the-printer.net/DookCat.html

Or non Russian readers can go to this page, http://www.cyclonengines.narod.ru/ and send the Cyclon owner "A.K." an email. My flying partners have odered stuff from him that way.
