Here's a question for the experts of the rcgf 20cc and 26cc....ok, wait a minute, I don't see any posts on the 20cc. Here's my question, I have an old topflite kit of a 69 1/2" texan at-6 that I'm at the point of finishing. Topflite recommends it's a .60-.90 glo up to a 1.20 4c. As I look at the specs on the 20 it looks as though it would be a good choice. On the other hand it seems as the .26 is the same price and substantially more power at only 1.5 ounces more. I have an italian super tigre .90 but didn't want to spend another $50 for a pitts muffler. Also, I've glassed the plane and I'm ready to paint so engine choice would affect the choice of paint...... thanks, Brent

Hey Hpelsromantic
The 20cc will be more than enough power for the Texan. The big issue with the 26cc will be the prop clearance. You will can swing an 18" with the 26... I don't think you have the clearance.(do you?!!!)[8D]
A 20cc will be a perfect match for the plane.

I think that's all I needed to hear. I'm tired of wiping down glo and I own two gassers now and love them. I'm not sure about prop clearance with the robart retracts but I'll check. thanks for the prompt response

The UPS man delivered a gift this evening. My 26cc is here and looks great. I think I have everything ready but the engine standoffs. They will need to be longer than the set that comes with the engine but that is no problem. I will make them tomorrow and hopefully get the Pitts ready soon.
Thanks Henry!

Nothing in the wind at the moment. It was looked at at one stage but the overall length is a bit of an issue for many of the planes in that size -they are generally designed for shorter glow engines.
Who knows what the future will hold though

I got it mounted up and doing the break in. I'll probably run it on the ground for 30 minutes and then go fly tomorrow.
I am very impressed with the ease of startng it and how well it is running. I think I am going to be hooked on gas.

It is the Cermark Pitts. http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/...ttsS2BARF.html
I clipped the wings 2 inches. Roles much better but you really do not want to dead stick it unless you have lots of altitude.
AUW is 10.5 lbs. I was flying it with a OS 120 AX and it was really good but not great. I am looking for great!

hey t3beatz, you don't fly a league models yak do you? I ran into a guy from your area that does alot of 3d from that part of the country. Also, I saw somewhere in this thread that they were working on a pitts muffler for the 20cc. Any word? Looking at my cowl on my t-6 I think the muffler is going to be within like 3 mm from the cowl.....hmmmm, questions, questions........

Sorry, no, I just fly a generic yak-54 from the LHS... It flys great to me... I call it my beater plane because I didn't pay as much as the high name brand planes, so I'm not as scared to do Stupid stuff with it! It helps me to learn a little quicker... It actually flys great though...

I got to fly the Pitts today with the new 26cc. Not a good day. Pitts do not like dead sticks. It was windy, I was down wind and the dreaded silence happened. Turned back to the runway but no way I was going to make it. It dropped like a rock but all would have been okay if the landing gear would have held. It went then the prop hit and snapped the engine and firewall out and underneath the plane. I have the firewall back in it. It will go back as good as new. So now.....I guess you would like to know what happened to the engine. Well, I have to sy the RCGF is sweet. It is rock solid and doesn't miss a beat from idle to full throttle. I was so enjoying it that I forgot how long I was up and yeap....................bone dry. I could not believe it. Pulls great and will only get better when I get it broke in and the oil mixture leaned up. Great job RCGF!!!!!!!!!

Man.....talk about bitter sweeeeet.
Great to hear about the engine..... really crappy to hear about the dead stick in the wind.
No amount of donuts will make that pain go away.. I know.... I've eaten them, and felt sicker than before
I hope you get back in the air sooner than later.... I wanna hear the end of the story too.
Cheer ta ya and the plane.....

Ohhhh, Sorry to hear about that beautiful plane dead-sticking on you... Up load some pictures of the before and after once you get it fixed.... I was out with my plane today also... still flying great!!! I think I've had more than 80 or so flights on my engine. Next time I go out I'll get some more video for you all...

Ive flown both the 120 AX and the 160 FX and I would say that the RCGF is right in the middle. I am really wanting to see how it picks up on power after I switch to Premium gas and synthetic oil at 45:1. I am running regular fuel at 30:1 mix for now. I am also not happy with the 17x8 Zoar. I think I will try a 18x6 next. Taking a few weeks off for road trips so this will have to wait.
This engine would work great for the Funtana. It is a few lbs. lighter than the Cermark Pitts. I am thinking of getting another to put on a Showtime 90 that I just got in last week. I was planning on putting the 120AX on the showtime but now......................maybe not.
Henry,
How much can I expect to gain in RPM all said and done?

Hey Brewski....
First the caveat..... rpm gains depend on many factors... oil, gas, if your wife or significant other is happy, tide, moon.etc..
...
After the first couple of hours you will be running at 30:1. then switch over. It will take a couple more hours to get the rings properly set after that.
That said, a normal and usual rpm gain will be 200- 400 rpm. Some have reported higher too, but I would go with the 200-400 rpm as the standard.
Hope this helps...

Did anyone out there happen to take a picture of their 26 with muffler, stand offs, and ignition while it was on a scale? I know you can get the weight off the web site, but I would like to see some actual weights of it.

I did not before I flew it but .............................since the mishap, I have an opportunity. I have the plane repaired but I am waiting on the covering. I'll weigh it before I install and I'll let u know what I find.
