Default RE: Hitec Spectra 2.4 module upgrade

I have been inactive in this hobby for about 7 years now due to health reasons, but have recently been getting my equipment ready to fly again. I too was considering converting my Prism 7X to the 2.4 system. I checked the form and I also have a question. There is no box to check for the Prism 7 or the Prism 7X, so do I check the box for the Eclipse or the Optic 6?

Just hand write what radio you will be using it in if it's not listed.
NOTE: If using in a Prism 7 (not Prism 7X) you will need to open up the radio and perform the modification to the RF boards trace as shown in the general radio sections thread on using it with the Prism.

The order form states, "You send us any 72 MHz Module......"

So would a 72 MHz Futaba FP-TF-AM (fits old gold box tx) module qualify for a trade in?

I suppose so but our 2.4 module will not work in that model Futaba. Our module will work in the Futaba radios that use their TP-FM module. The one from the old gold box Futaba is a larger size than ours.

Thanks Brendan!
I've got a 7U, 8U, and a 9CS that can use the Spectra 2.4 module. But those radios have 50 MHz modules that don't qualify for the Spectra upgrade offer.

So I was hoping to be able to trade in the 72 MHz module from my old Futaba gold FG transmitter for a Spectra 2.4 module since the offer referred to any 72 MHz module.

Not many people on 50mhz which is why our ad says a 72 mhz module. If you wanted to send in one of the 50mhz modules we would still swap it for the 2.4ghz promo module.

OOPS! Based on your first reply, and the module exchange order form clearly stating "any 72 MHz Module", I already mailed off the order form, a check for $24.95, and the old 72 MHz FP-TF-AM module on Saturday morning.

I sent my module in way too early ( middle of March)because I misread the instructions stating that they had to be postmarked by 5-1-2010. Will I still get the new 2.4 module even though i'm a dumb#!% ?

Youre not the only one who jumped the gun on the 4-1-10 postmark date. We'll still process the order, but we'll move you to the back of the line.
(just kidding- we'll take care of you still)

Didn't realize there was going to be a difference in the promo module and the current production module. I like the idea of the antenna on module. Now I am even more excited about the conversion. Have you started shipping out the promo modules yet?

Hope you get to my order before you run out!

I received my 2.4 module yesterday. Thanks for the quick response.
I'm guessing that I don't need to remove the existing antenna from my Eclipse, correct?

Also, regarding the 6 channel 2.4GHz receiver does it have the same range as the 7 channel?

No you do not need to remove the old 72 mhz antenna from the radio.

Yes the Optima 6 has the same range as the 7 and 9.

Considering there was only one blurb about it in Model Aviation, it's been overwhelming!

What I tell people when the call though is that unless you plan to switch back and forth between 2.4 and 72, you might as well just get the normal module combo w 2/ 7Ch RX's for $129.99 since it's still less than buying 2 RX's individually.

Got my module in today's mail! Now all I need is a receiver to test it out.

I thought about getting the module and receivers combo, but that module has the exposed wire and the promo module doesn't.

Considering upgrading my radio 9cap with hitec 2.4 spectra module. This is cheaper than a new futaba pcm reciever.

Will the 9 chanel module work with the futaba 9 cap ?

Will there be a fixed antena module for the ones that switch from 72 mhz to 2.4 ghz?

Is the optima 7 chanel reciever a safe option for a 30 cc gasser?

How is the latency of this configuration compared with fut tm 8 module?

Thanks

Juan

The combos have the module with the wire, which honestly is not a big deal.

Yes, it is fully compatible with the 9C but even with the 9Ch RX you will only be able to use 8 channels since you have to be in PPM (FM.)

The Hitec module/RX latency is 20ms added to the system. It will probably feel like when you are flying with the PCM RX.

Yes, the 7Ch RX is perfectly suitable in any size aircraft. Here's an example:

Thanks Mike for the info.

Been fallowing the hitec 2.4 ghz progress since last year here in these forums and will jump later in this year with the Aurora 9.

Great job you are doing answering and keeping everybody informed.

Thanks

I got my module yesterday for my 9C.
Two issues:
1-It goes in upside down
2-It does not snap in like the regular module. I fits fairly tight but still it does snap in like it should.
What should I do?

It doesn't matter if it's upsidedown.

I havn't heard anyone say that it didn't snap in... it should be fine as long as it's tight.

I just checked the promo module in a 9Z, 9C, 8U, and 7U.

It fits snugly in all of them, but doesn't go in deep enough to "latch" in any of them.
