so what are you suggesting?
a groupner 480?
and if i use a gear box what must the ratio and propellor be?

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I used a Graupner Speed 480 race as they sent me the wrong one. It made a big difference to the takeoff power even with the standard prop.
I did have to upgrade to 1400mA batteries though as the extra current draw kept tripping the low-voltage cutout when I used the standard ones.
I wouldn't recomend the Speed 480 Race (grp6330), though I'm sure the Graupner Speed 480 (grp6304) would still make a big difference if you have the money for it.

you will find you may need to go a 9x7 or 10x5 prop with a geared motor...thats what i ran and it went well...
I will install the brushles next week...so ill take pics on the mount...it is very interesting (thanks to aussie toyman for the tip)

Ya, I was looking at the SPEED 480 (GR6304), definitely not the Race version. Do you still think it would need the 1400mah battery? I tracked one of those down a while back looking for a second battery, they are hard to find. I found a 1200mah pack and a 1100mah pack for about $20 US.
Thanks for the advice on the prop. I will see what the LHS has to offer. I did notice that the aftermarket props. just have a hole drilled through them, instead of the nut inset. I would guess this means you need to get something to mount them? A universal prop. adapter?

Mouthpiec,
you've added about 56gm behind the Centre of Gravity (CG) making the Cessna even more tail heavy they they started.
You may need to put some weight in the nose or move your Rx as far forward as you can get it inside the fuslage.
fliprob17,
you should be able to use the std batteries with the GR6304 as the current draw using the std prop should be lower than I had with the Race motor. You will need a new Prop Adapter as the Graupner motors have a 3.17mm shaft against the 2mm shaft of the std Cessna motor. I also had to drill out the center of the Cessna Prop to fit the prop adapter.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
My cessna seemes highly underpowered since the first flight. I saw a video of a stock cessna like mine flying what looked like alot better. With a higher climb rate . Mine wont even loop! or roll for that matter.Looses alot of speed and just drops. So now i just fly around.Read somewhere that for the first couple of charges the battery wont ive full power. This true in any way?

just to make a loop....lol you wont beleive the difference in just flying a good motor makes.
speed 480s will give you more thrust and more get up...ill post pics of my 50 buck brushless, esc and mount as soon as i do it....
for 50 bucks you cant go wrong

I'm pretty sure if the plane can make a descent loop i'll be enjoying the rest of all the flying too

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
today i made a couple of flights with the cessna, and i noticed that to climb the first 3 metres it is a problem for the plane ..... is it normal? because afterwards it is very easy to fly!

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I flew the 3-channel Cessna 182 for about a year and I'm now flying the 4-channel version (much nicer to fly).
Both of these planes can do loops without any problems in stock form. The motor has plenty of power. I'm now using a TP1320 Mah li-po battery which is a lot lighter than the regular battery and flies much nicer using the stock ESC -- more power and longer flights.
All other planes I've flown I had to make modifications to improve their performance. Not the Cessna 182, it flies great just the way it is.

The 480 speed motor flies best on 9.6v. More volts = more speed but 11.1 volts is too much for speed 400/480 motor and will burn out the motor.

id hardly say using a lipo is "flying in its std form" i dont care what anyone says but the stock cessna flies like a pig stock, so hard to climb to any decent height, slow on the manouvers and sloppy on takeoffs....even just changing to a gearded motor made the plane so much nicer to fly...it climbed alot better, turned flatter...it is much nicer...
Brushless is the way to go

if you try to install a graupner speed 480 it will not fit, only the 400 will fit!

No, aussie toyman fitted one to his cessna...
