Default Protecting pink foam?

I am building a very light RC glider from pink foam. When done I want to paint it. I do not want to use any low temp iron on covering. For my design I need to really keep the weight down. Is there anything I can treat the foam with to toughen it up?

3m clear packaging tape. works awesome
