There are single and dual conversion receivers. A single conversion receiver must use a single conversion crystal. And a dual conversion receiver must use a dual conversion crystal.

That is how I understand it. I have a Single conversion receiver in one plane and a dual conversion receiver in another plane. I never change the crystal in the TX.

Just so you know. A double conversion has an extra stage of amplication/filtration benifit is longer range, minor increase in current draw.
A single conversion does not have the extra amplication/filter stage and has a shorter range (roughly 1000 feet)
