Default Free EXTRA 300S from ********.com BUILD!

Hello,

Because I can never have to many project going at the same time I decided to attempt my first foam plane and electric set up.

A lot of help is going to be appreciated here.

First I would like to start off by saying thanks to the folks at ********.com for the free plans.

I have purchased fan fold foam from Lowes that cost me $33.00 minus a $15.00 coupon. I have download and put the plans together.

I have also already purchased 9g. Micro Servos (5) from hobbyking.com. Which I must say I got for almost next to nothing. I will be using a Futaba 4ch micro receiver and transmitter.

My question to first start out with is what is the best power combo for this plane?

I want something not to expensive that will throw this plane around. I am completely electric retarded and would love to see some links to what you suggest.

Thanks in advance for your help. Please stop by to follow this build thread.

Go back to hobbycity and get a turnigy 2826 or 2836 any where in between there. And get a simple 60 amp ESC from them too.

Gotta love Hobbycity!!!! Turnigy's are good motors at a fair price. See what the motor draws from the specs and pick the ESC from there. 60 amper is a bit overkill i think but then you won't have to worry about smokin it cause you were pullin to many amps. One suggestion I would make is get the Rhino lipos they sell. Me and my 10 year old use the 3cell, 460 mha ones and i love them. Great power, great flight times, and they still take up full charges after 15+ cycles so far, well worth the meager price they ask. You're gonna see towerpro combos on there, stay away from them. Weight is concern in foamies, and they are priced really cheap as a combo, but they are heavy, and the towerpro esc's are rather large(more weight) for the amps they handle. By the way, what are the demensions of your foamie?

What do you guys think about [link]http://www.graysonhobby.com[/link]

********.com recommends this site for cheap combos. I put a link on here to see what you guys think. Are they worth the 20.00 or am I just wasting my money?

I appreciate all the information thus far. I am starting to grasp the concept on how electrics work. I do however have a question about ESC amps. Is it basically the bigger motor the more amps of ESC you need? I thought most lite weight foamies only needed a 30 AMP.

Also here is a link to a combo that they suggest for the Extra300S that I downloaded.
[link]http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?ref=3&products_id=619&affiliate_banner_id=1[/link]

I almost forgot but there are the dimensions.

Type: ParkJet

Motor Class: 400

Length: 36 â€

Wing Span: 35½â€

Total Flying Weight: 12 oz

MY OPINIONS: Though the price is right, the combo you linked looks to be a towerpro combo in different clothes though. There is alot of extra weight in the steel bell design of that motor i think. That's a heavy design. the towerpro combo i have weights twice what is actually on my foamie[X(]is the look i had when i weighed it. Parkjets, not much experience really in the jets so common sense is offer here. I thought it was a 3D foamie anyways, parkjets need speed due to the lack of wing area(which is what makes it faster) and speed needs power and power is amps. I stand corrected about 60 amp esc being overkill, your gonna need it. I think you're gonna be looking at running a smaller prop at higher rpms(higher Kv motor) and those rpm's will need amps. An indoor foamie type motor/esc setup isn't going to cut it, deffinately not an 18 amper. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...les_Heli_Motor may be the ticket for you. Yes it's a heli motor but setup right it should perform on the foamie terrific. could maybe run a 5-4 prop on a high discharge 3 cell pack. a 35 amp esc may get you buy here cause this setup is more a high end(power is in the higher throttle range) rather than torque setup, i think.http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...Simple_40A_ESC. Just some seggestions on the possible direction of parts. let us know though what u do go with. got some blucor myself, may have to try a jet

Wow,

Hey thanks for the links. I am going to purchase both of those items hopefully next week.

I also wanted to mention that these will be going on an Extra 300s and not a jet.

Will they still work. My plan here is to use it as a 3D trainer. Not really looking for speed more so looking for torque.

I know these may be stupid questions but I am leaving it to the electric experts to guide me.

Thansk again for everyting!

Same motor and ESC for less: http://www.rchotdeals.com/Products/r.../2208_18a.html
That is the same motor i run on 3 of my planes, with weights from 11oz to 20 oz ........... Make sure to get the 11100kv motor as the torque is waht you want for the lighter planes. I use APC 8 x 6's up to GWS 1060's and get great performance.

Very good vendor and He is always quick with shipping!

Arrow is on the track. See you listed parkjet as the type so that was the setup i showed you. for a foamie, here.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...Simple_10A_ESC

Here's what i run. I use the 460 mha batts but they are out of those right now, these they have. Been runnin 9-6's on the same motor for 2 winters now.
Again, only my opinions

mkharv3......... I also place an order with Hobbycity for the same brushless motor. The one i already bought is in my GWS F4U corsair. She is a rocket on anything from 8 x 6 props up to the GWS 1060. I am running a 30A ESC in mine (overkill) but actually only draw around 22A. This is with the Zippy 11.1V 1300 mAh lipo which is a 20C with bursts to 30C. Hand launch at half throttle and she is solid and wanting to go.
Good choice on the motor and ESC as well as battery. Looks like you have a winner there!

OK I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BE A DUMB QUESTION FOR THE FOAMY EXPERTS BUT HERE GOES.

The only items I need are the motor/esc/servos/lipo battery right.

So the LiPo will provide power to the ESC and the Receiver. Or do I have to use a different battery for the two?

Sorry for my stupidity

Thanks guys!

The esc has a BEC built in(battery eliminating circuit).Power is supplied to the receiver from the esc through the throttle wire connection from the esc. aahhhh!! technology is great. Just for added info, the average esc supplies no more than about 3 amps to the reciver. More than enough power for all the servos in about any foamie.
Only one batt needed

Got to love RCUNIVERSE.COM.

I am glad I asked because I would have never guessed.

More great info from CubMaster.

All of that glow experience does not help a lot here lol.

Mark

I will post some pictures later today of what I have done!

Hey,

Here is what I got so far. I cut out all the parts and they came out great.

I also got servos in the mail already 5 shipped from Hong Kong for 21.00.

The rest will be purchased in the next couple days.

I hope you enjoy.

I am considering buiding one of these also as I finally found the blue foam at Lowes. Will a Eflite park 400 outrunner work on this? Only asking because I have one and it would be one less thing to buy. Thanks, Jeff

Hey thanks for that advice I will need to go ahead and purchase a prop saver. That would suck to have to go bye another 6.95 motor. LOL

Hey I am on an Air Force budget and seven dollars is seven dollars.

So looking forward to getting my stuff. Also I purchased some carbon fiber rods last night and plan on installing them while I wait for my items. What is the best way to install them and what type of glue works the best?

Oh one last question, do I need to take off that film on the foam?

YES I THINK I AM ADDICTED TO HOBBYCITY.COM

Thanks again.

Hey,

I just wanted to stay sorry if this build seams to be moving slow but I thought I should share my other project going on right now. Check it out and let me know what you think.
