The Alienator

i am thinking of getting the alienator and putting an axi 2820/10 in it with 8 cells but i have heard that the wings are likley to fold and i am interested in seeing what other people have done about it. I was thinkin of putting two carbon tubes of reasonable length i the wing either side of the wooden spar. Will this be enough?
Please tell me what you have done. And one more thing will it fit ten cells!

Just finished mine - hasn't flown yet. I put a Tsunami brushless outrunner and an 8x6 folding prop on it. Planning on starting with an 8 cell 1100 NIMHI pack, it has to be way forward for the CG. Pics after I fly it.

Good first flights. The thing won't stall! Only getting about 3-4 mins on 8 cell 1100 pack so I am looking for a 3 cell Lipo. G.

I had a few of these, an AXI 2808/20 and 8~10 KAN or Sanyo FAUP 1700 or 1950 cells is easily enough. It's really great with a much lighter Etec 3s2p 2400. I used the APC 10x6 folder. Another good motor for this plane is the PJS 1000, not quite as fast, but still good with a 10x6 ~11x6 prop. These lighter version are much less likely to fold the wings, one of the best flying planes I have ever owned. You can get the PJS1000 on sale really cheap from Hobby Lobby right now, shipped anywhere for $2.50.

Just changed the motor to a Permax 480 8D brushless. Kept the 8x4 folding prop. Still waiting for my Li-pos so will try new motor tomorrow.

That sounds like a good choice of motor.

Flew it today with a 3cell 2100 lipo pac. Very good performance with 8x4 folder. will try to get some pics soon.

I have an Alienator that is glow. I know this is the electric world, but I was wondering if anyone had problems getting the cg at 95mm forward of the spar?

No, no problem at all with an AP .15. I think I did use a standard servo for the elevator so it wasn't so nose heavy.

Does anyone know where I can buy another IC Alienator? The elevator clevis stripped on mine this afternoon, and the rest is now nothing but hair, teeth and eyeballs. I would like another, it was a blast to fly.
