Zagi 400X questions...
 

Hello group,

I am getting ready to purchase a Zagi 400X for a "fun" plane to suplement my heli. I have been flying glow for years, but have had the itch for an electric fun plane for a while... The Zagi in the 400X version looks to fit the bill.

Questions:

What servos do you recommend?

Which receivers, I have a bunch of Futaba R148 DF and DP 8 channel units, but they seem like over kill...

What battery packs are we using on these? Are Nicads still king, or is nimh a possibility? What capacity, and from where are you getting them?

HS-55s will do a real nice job for you.

The Hitec 555 is a great receiver, but the current receivers you have now will work (they are just a little on the heavy side).

My personal preference for the servos for the Zagi are either HS81MG or HS85MG's. The HS55's are lighter, but are more fragile. (But the HS55's will work fine).

I'm running an 8 cell 1700 4/5HR Nimh pack from Diversity Model Aircraft. I like them a lot! :D

I agree with Latch, the HS-81's would be better with the 400X. Make sure you set the elevons up like the directions say. I thought mine was on the heavy side so my gas powered mind said add some up. Needless to say it didn't work out for the glide throw. I turned them back down to where they were suppose to be and it flies like a dream now.

I'm using the Futaba 8 rx in mine. If you are considering the 555 look into the Electron 6 instead. It's a Hitec rx but smaller and cheaper then the 555. It's a great little rx, dual conversion also.

Look at the build link on clubzagi.com, they put a lot of good stuff on there to help you out. I called it up and went step for step when I put mine togethor, took me five hours to complete.
