plane works without antenna soldered on why?

I took apart my mini storm launcher and going to put it on another foamy I'm building.

took the antenna and am going to solder longer one on, but i can it without in on and the props still run like the antenna was still on how can that be? I'm sure the range won;t be that great but it's weird how it works with it off.

PS I'm going to put a longer one on it so i have a range of about 600ft now.

longer antennas do not increase range.........

well reception then

there is an optimum antennae length for each receiver and going either longer or shorter will gradually decrease the range or reception capability.

To a point, but longer gets better at some point. The issue is that the antenna needs to be a length that corresponds to a wavelength of the frequency in question. IE, if your antenna is 1/4 wave, a little longer will be de-tuned, and be bad, but twice as long (half wave) will give a better signal . . . should be by about 3db (double the signal . . .) and so forth as you get longer.

Unfortunately, you can't tow two miles of wire, or we would have insane range . . . .

Fly it with the same length antenna ..........ONLY. Best protection against glitches & motor noises.

Some transmitters and receivers can be damaged if the antenna is not used.

that's what i did it's twice as long

Good point. I didn't think of that.

I am told however that some receivers have built in base loading which makes the lengths hard to figure out.
