Sobre reinforcement bracing
Not sure how many out there have built a Sobre foamie since they are fairly new. This is my first foamie build. Initial assembly brings together the wings and tail feathers into the fueselage plate. Seems like a flimsy design until you start strapping on the carbon bracing rods to the fuse and bottom of the wing. I'm wondering how foamies that do not use this reinforcement method keep in the air. Seems air frames would wear out fast from doing 3D stuff and not having any strength.
There are a few pre-cut lengths of the carbon bracing rod. The wing pieces are really long, and then the fuselage ones are a combination of various lengths. The manual lists which ones go where and the lengths that the kit should provide. After putting everything where it goes I have (4) 100mm rods left. The manual doesn't say anything about these being included. This length rod is not listed in the parts count. Maybe they are extra ones for replacement in case you have a crash? Dave |
RE: Sobre reinforcement bracing
They are most likely just spares, or extras. If you don't see any place they could go, then you're fine.

RE: Sobre reinforcement bracing
Did you put your side force generators on? The leftover rods could be for that.

RE: Sobre reinforcement bracing
You are correct. I finished building the rest of the plane and got to that step. In the directions for the other parts these carbon bracing pieces are not mentioned. So until I got to the end of the line with instructions I thought that they were extra. However I only have two of these. There are SFG's on both sides top and bottom so I should have four of them total. I only found two of this length in the box.
I bought a length of rod at the local hobby store. I tried gluing on the first top SFG. Couldn't get the thing to set in place long enough for the glue to cure to it. All I did was make the paint from the color scheme run everywhere. Going to try flying it w/o them first. Dave |
