Top or Best EPP 3D large foamy
Hello,
Need some help from you 3D EPP flyers!! :D For those who HAVE flown EPP 3D foamies, my son and I need your help. I need an EPP 3D foamy for my early-teen son. He has been flying for years and has been working 3D high in the sky, but it is time to find an EPP 3D foamy that he can bounce off the ground and keep flying. Then of coarse, I want to use it also to practice low ground touching 3D and rolling harrier practice where I can bounce it also :D So NO EEP, but only EPP for the bounce from what I under stand! We want a LARGE 3D foamy, preferrably over the 32" size? maybe 38" of 40", you all tell me what a excellent 3D EPP foamy size is??? Get this, I found this EPP that is bounce and crash tested and even has a motor-mount -saver type motor mount like a prop saver, TOO COOL!!! Grayson Hobby 3D EPP Sukhoi RX Ready ARF http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...ce297defecca09 Thanks in advance to all !!! Cheers |

Gizmo: The airframe at Grayson appears the same as the RC Powers Extra 330 plan. I built one from plans and 6mm depron. It is one of my best flyers, near AirfoilZ ability. Don't know why that rubber band/tootpick motor mount works, but is does. Have been in prop first several times at a good speed, and no damage. About the only thing that is going to be unbreakable in reality is your simulator, assuming you have and use a simulator. If not, get a good one. Will be cheaper in the long run. Its still practice, practice, practice. One of the hardest things to work out is setup. Gotta have a good computer radio with expo and dual rates. Lots of good info on the web, RC universe, rc groups, etc. lGood luck. |

Obviously you don't know what EPP is.

I would suggest any of the Hacker Zoom series of 3D EPP profile planes (comes in various sizes)
http://rcbaron.com/acatalog/Profiles.html Airfoiled wings, very robust and easy to repair, good 3D performance. I flew a Hacker Super Zoom 2 at night with an Aurora white LED kit, excellent airplane. Equipped with a Motorfly motor and ESC, it was exceptionally quiet and had more than enough power. |
BTW, if you are going to be 'bouncing around' an EPP plane, I would suggest not assembling the plane with CA
Instead, use UHU POR (available online from folks like RCFoam, eBay, etc). Produces a much more compliant secure joint than CA. You can also use UHU POR for repairs but for field (quick) repairs, add some CA to 'tack' the repair and allow the UHU POR to cure. An even better glue than UHU POR, albeit a bit more difficult to find, is 3m 6225N http://shop.eflypower.com/shop/views.asp?hw_id=916 Make sure it is the BLACK cap, which is the glue from Japan. IMHO, the best EPP glue ever created. |
My most favorite 3D plane is the Zoombi that ITC referred to in the RC Baron website. It will hover hands off vertically, if set up properly. I'm on my second one and didn't know they were still available. Thanks ITC.
My foamys are all put together with hotglue but that's just a personal choice.:D Gord. |
There are many good EPP 3D planes on the market. Twisted hobbies has some great flying machines from 32" and up to larger sizes and they have a fair range of products and also excellent power setups to go with the model for optimum performance. Great service ... you can't go wrong.
Another excellent 3D EPP plane is the full fuse by SkyWing they come in 3 sizes 38", 48" and 55". Very well priced and excellent flyers. Available from either Wattaplane or Aliexpress. (Aliexpress sells the 38" scale full fuse for a mere $100 complete with electronics + shipping around $50 - you only need battery and receiver. My 2cents worth! :) |
