Default RCU moving to new host Tuesday 1/6/04! We will be down for a bit in the AM hours

We are schedule to make our move to our faster host and new servers tomorrow. We anticipate the site being down for a few hours roughly around the time between 9AM EST and 2PM EST.

When we come back online things will be MUCH FASTER then they are right now. Very fast if I've done my homework properly.

Thanks for your patience as we are aware the last few weeks have been very slow at times.

P.S. if there are minor glitches tomorrow after we relaunch please bear with us as we will have all our programmers, hosting personnel on call to fix things in real time until all is perfect!

Viva La RCU!!!!!

Holy Crap! Site is much faster. Of course, running twin T1 lines helps, I'm sure.

I hate rebooting. Foot hurts after a while.

I haven't seen much overall increase in the speed of pages loading (still averages about 20 seconds per page), so it must be my 56K modem. [:@]

Sorry--I'm on cable and don't see any difference in loading speed. And now there are threads that have lost the pictures in the messages...

I have a 1 Megabit cable connection and the site is much faster for me now. It is taking less than 2 seconds to load a page. Before the switch it sometimes took around 10 seconds.

Marc, I agree, but when it's all you've got,,,,,and all you will probably ever have, given the location, we just have to live with it. My machine shows a tr rate of 49.3 kbs

RCU is running slower today than it has in ages. I'm not complaining, but the other R/C forums I browse are, really much faster.

I appreciate your efforts to improve the site and know it has been a lot of hard work, but, in all honesty, it ran faster in it's original format. This is not meant as criticism, just information.[&o]

what do you mean "original format"? we just changed to a faster host with 10x the bandwidth we had before. the change was made on Monday afternoon. are you saying it was faster last week or months ago?

My tests before sunday were showing download speeds of videos at 5kb to 15kb sec tops. I now download at 300kb/sec. 20x faster than before.

80k images from the gallery used to load in 10-15 seconds for me last week and today they are instant.

I confirmed that our last host did not accomodate our bandwidth needs as they were supposed to. They were unable to sustain our throughput which is actually 1.5 Terabytes per month give or take (1500GB's)!! We have no ceiling where we are right now at rackspace.com

Hehehehehe
Best I ever get here in the middle of an Ohio cornfield is 28800.
Usually average at 26400.
If I can quit the cigarette habit next week (smoke away came today) (startin monday) I'm rewarding myself with wireless internet.
They're guaranteeing 128 KPBS and up to 512.
I have a huge dairy farm (3500 head) about 1 1/2 miles away with an antenna on their tower.
A 2 meg vid takes about 15 minutes now if it goes good. 20 or so if it doesn't.

Marc, I don't know anything about all the computer jargon. I just know the site runs no faster now than it did before the last change several months ago. I only consistantly browse three forums, and this one is still the slowest. My other machine is on a 24.8 KBS line and I don't even try to browse RCU on it as it's hopeless.

I'm not complaining or criticizing, just stating what I see. I applaud you for what your trying to do. This is a great site. If I were paying the price you quoted for this speed,,,,,I'd be concerned if I was getting enough bang for the buck. On the other hand, if your happy,,,,I'm happy. OK

cajun,

what is your connection speed. unless you are on a relatively fast 56k (at the very least) you won't notice much increase. 56k modem guys should notice it being a bit faster and dsl and cable modem users it should scream on now comapred to last few months.

I'm using a 56K modem on a dial up line showing 48kbs+. Living 12 miles from town in a sparsley populated area, it's probably what we will be stuck with for a long time.

I'd like to see a poll of what percentage of guys are on dial up lines and what % are on high speed connects. We have 28 club members and only 4 are on high speed connects.

Is there no way to increase speed for dial up connections on conventional phone lines? Like Outlaw, clicking the mouse and waiting for another page to load is rather old, but a way of life for those of us not living in the fast lane

I'm on 56K too . Now running about half as fast as it did last week. The longer pages load about 2/3, then take one reply at a time, each one about 5 sec. each till the full page is loaded.
