I'm getting them and responding but they seem to disappear into thin air. Any thoughts?

It depends entirely upon the person you are sending them to. They may not be actively reviewing PM's.

You may want to be sure you have your PM's set to be saved in your Saved list for future reference if need be.

It's happened twice both members PM'ed me and noted they did not receive my reply. Since neither message shows as sent in my sent folder I'm guessing neither was sent. I will check my setting again.

If the message is not in your Sent folder, and you have confirmed your options are to save Sent items, then the message was never sent.
