.049?
What would be a good plane to build for a reed valve 049? Something to cut my teeth on. Easy to trim.

I began flying through a 4H club, and the leader at the time was working with kids that had very little money to work with. We built a lot of FF models, Babe Bee .049 powered, made of cardboard, single strand of coathanger wire through a corrougation for a "spar". These were profile fuselage, sheet stabs and wings, pine engine blocks. Properly fuel-proofed, they lasted quite well. We had a number of designs; L-19, T-6, AD-1, B-17 (yes), and a few others. Simple to make, inexpensive, tons of fun, and taught us how to understand flight and trim a model. May be a stretch for most folks to find these interesting, but they sure served the purpose for us.
If that's not your idea of a good time, there are many cabin (high wing) or shoulder wing models that fit the bill of 'easy to trim, and are simple construction. Old Goldberg & Sterling designs, etc. Scott |
The "composite" build sounds really fun; use to do similar with hand toss planes but never anything powered. I was thinking of a 60's pylon like plane.
