Default GY520 Gyro

Hi Bax.

I am having an issue with my TT Mini Titan 325 V2 electric heli. The tail seems to not hold steady during flight. I have centered the mechanics and have set the gyro as follows: Digital using a S9650, reversed, I set the servo limits using the gyro fuction on the gyro itself, NOT the radio 10C 2.4, F3C mode, response is set to fast. Once I bring the heli into a hover, I have to hold a little right rudder stick to keep the heli from yawing to the left. I have set my EPA gyro points to 30 for the gyro (gain). When I punch it, the gyro does not hold heading, the heli yaws left or CC. The rotor blades turn clockwise.

I made my own servo arm as the ball link screw that came with the kit, is very small and the standard holes in the servo arms are too big. So I took a large Futaba wheel type servo arm with no factory holes and turned it down on my lathe to about 12mm from hole center. I then drilled and mounted the ball link 4 or 5 mm from hole center to reduce the overall servo throw. The Titan instructions call for 10.5 mm from hole center to ball link location but it seemed to me, that setting just gave too much throw.

I have no sub trim and have mounted the gyro using two 2mm pads and one damping shield. I have set up several Futaba gyros and usually don't have issues. This is my first time however setting up a GY520.

Thanks, Mike

One of our FAQ's from our website might help you out a little:

http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-gyros-q1126.html

If you are having "bouncing" during hard tail stops, it may be because the response of the gyro is faster than the heli tail movement caused by too fast of a response setting.

Different brands of helicopters use different gear ratios. In order to get the optimum performance between the GY520 and all brands of helicopter, you can either adjust the rudder delay in your transmitter, or change the servo response setting to a slower speed to help resolve any issues. (Example: From Fast>Reference>Slow)

The CIU-2 parameter setting option will offer a more detailed setting with the AVCS response setting menu.

In other circumstances, if your heli has too hard of a stop, and there is no bounce. You can use the methods above also. The pirouette consistency menu on the CIU-2 programming can be set to a value lower than 7 also, for more moderate operation of the rudder control. You may also adjust the AVCS Right Out and Left Out if your transmitter does not have rudder delay.

Default RE: GY520 Gyro

Hi Krysta.

What you explained about "bounce" and hard tail stops I think I am not having those issues. I am having a basic tail rotor/gyro problem where I am NOT doing any forward flight or 3D flying, the tail just does NOT want to hold heading in a hover. It just won't hold it. The heli yaws to the left. I have to hold rt stick to keep the heli pointing in one direction only.

I do not have one of those CIU-2 things as they are out of stock right now. I just can't seem to set the gyro so it will control the yaw very well at all. Again, I am not flying the heli during this testing phase. I am only in a hover gentle stuff trying to figure out why the gyro will not hold the heading tight.

Thanks,

Mike

Default RE: GY520 Gyro

I went to the link andit is about hard tail stop. I am NOT doing any hard tail stops. I am only in a hover trying to hold the heli in one heading. I am fighting the heli to stay in one heading. That is my problem. The gyro is not holding heading in heading hold mode.

Thanks for the link but it is not the issue I am having.

Mike
