Default 32MZ Throttle Stick Friction Brake

Hello Bill,

Can you advise whether the 32MZ has a replaceable throttle friction quadrant like the 18MZ?

pics attached.

Thanks,
Malcolm

No, it works like the 14MZ/16SZ/18SZ. There are two screws on the back of the TX. On a Mode 2 TX the screw on the left adjusts the ratchet, the one on the right adjusts the smooth stick friction. I found I need to open my 32 up and put a piece of heat shrink on the smooth spring leg to get the friction I wanted. Easy to do, just have to watch the wires for the 2 switches on the TX back.

You back out one before adjusting the other, otherwise they tend to overlap and it makes it hard to get what you want.

Understood Bill,
But what does the spring leg rub against if not a plastic piece like above?

There are two pieces on the gimbal. One with ratchets for the ratchet leg to run on and a smooth one for the smooth leg. You do not need a separate piece like the 14SG uses.

Would it be possible to get a pic of the back of the stick unit showing what rubs against what?

thanks,
Malcolm

Sorry for the delay. I should have paid more attention the first time. There is a small piece of smooth white plastic on the throttle. Not sure if it is the same as the other gimbals. I put some red shrink wrap because my smooth friction was not as much as I like. This is my left stick. I fly Mode 2.

Bill,

What are your thoughts on using the heavy Radio South springs on the 32mz? I have been using them on my 18mz without issue, and will be recieving my new 32mz in the next week or so.

Futaba does not recommend the HD springs RS sells in the 18SZ. I tried them in a 14MZ (same gimbal) and had a failure (ear holding spring broke). Enough similar incidents happened for Futaba to issue the warning.

If using those springs don't crank them all the way up.

As far as the 32MZ goes, I found that I could get the tension I like with the stock springs. I like higher tension as well and the 32MZ feels good to me. As noted above, I needed to put a piece of heatshrink on the throttle smooth side tension spring because mine would not tighten down as much as I wanted. I fly with the throttle stick smooth on everything I fly, helis, gliders, and power planes.

Give the 32MZ a try as is, then decide if it is not stiff enough for you. I need to check, but I recall seeing that Futaba has a stiffer spring set but I have not heard any feedback on them. Most people seem happy with the tension the stock springs offer.

Thanks Bill, looking forward to getting my hands on it in a couple of weeks!
