What is the major difference between the 16SZ and 16IZ transmitters? The 16IZ is significantly lower cost but appears to have the same features at first glance. What am I missing?

They both have the same software. The 16IZ adds integration for the CGY760 heli gyro.

The IZ has a lipo battery and USB charging
The SZ has a NiMH pack and wall wart charger

The IZ has a new case, new gimbals and a better screen.

Over all for me it is a no brainer to get the 16IZ. It is a newer radio, lots of improvements and costs less.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the 16IZ is the way to go. Is it widely available yet? I did not see it listed on Tower’s site.

Another question: is it possible to power the 16IZ with a Nimh or LiFe pack?

Not sure. But I doubt it. First it is made for higher voltage LiPo pack and the built-in charger is for lipo only. Not sure why you would want to do that either.

They are expected very soon. First at FutabaUSA and no idea when Tower will get them.

Folks, I am back at hobby over almost 14 years absence.

Everything changed on the last years, Runryder closed, XCell (Miniature) it is not more the Rolls-Royce of the heli, now we have eletric models, new systems of transmission, etc ...

So, after some researchs about the transmiter, I decided for futaba brand, but I have doubts yet.

Whats is the best choice at this moment, 16IZ, or 16SZ or 18SZ ?

I see this post, but the last interaction was a long time ago. So, I´d like to know if the IZ does it still the best choice ?

I know that he has features for CGY760, better battery and screen, but I didn´t find more info about gimbals, construction and materials of components as bearing, etc.

Anyone can help ?

PS: I intend to try the eletric model, if I hate it, I switch to nitro again.

The 16IZ is the best value in the Futaba line. New gimbals, lipo pack, great screen, and fantastic programming with full integration of the CGY755/760 gyros. Everybody I know with one loves it. Very popular in the heli community.

Yes, I have this perception too, but as a new release one and with many good features, it is strange to have lower price than 16sz and because of that I am researching more about it construction and components.

Many people said some points, as bad about the quality of constructions, gimbals it is newer but it is only a new designer because continua with only 1 bearing, fragile antenna, and because that give me with doubts, but I am still considereing!

As a member of Futaba Team , what can you share about it and possible rumors about a new release of "18 iz" ?

I have a 50-inch TV I bought 5 years ago for $1,800 USD. Today I can buy the same tv for $800 USD. I would not take the lowe price for the IZ to mean it is of inferior quality compared to the SZ.

As far as complaints go the people who love the radio far outnumber those who find issue with it. Each person will have their own personal likes/dislikes.

Buenas, me compre la T16IZ, en una tienda de europa, y cual es mi sorpresa, que no incluye los sistemas FasstMulti, y Fasst7ch.
como puedo activar estos sistemas,ya actualice a 3.3 y no resolvio nada.. todos los receptores que tengo son de estos sistemas.
por favor, si fuese necesario cambiar sistema operativo, donde lo consigo..

The 16IZ does not offer the FASST protocol in the EU. This is due to laws in the EU. FASST is offered in the 16IZ purchased anywhere outside the EU.

There is no means to add FASST to an EU version without FASST.

en españa, y tengo emisora t8fg con 8 receptores sistema fasst, y sin problemas ... y todos los compañeros de club vuelan con fasst

I do not think there is a way for you to add FASST to an EU region 16IZ radio. I suggest you contact the nearest service facility to see what they suggest.
