6v NiMH without regulator
Hi there,
Is it OK to use 6v NiMH packs with an FP-R138DP without voltage regulators? Will the higher voltage of a fresh charge cause any initial or long term problems? Thanks a bunch.

RE: 6v NiMH without regulator
Hi Stick Jammer....good question. I will monitor the answers because my intention is to fly a Carl Goldberg SU26 Sukhoi this Spring or Summer. I'm thinking of installing two 6.0v 2000mah NiMh battery packs in Parallel without a regulator. Will this set up hamper performance? Is it too much for the Receiver and Servos? I'm using 2 Hitec 605 BB's on the ailerons, 1 Hitec 645 Metal Gear pull pull on the Rudder, 1 Futaba S 148 on the throttle and two Hitec HS 77 BB low profile on the elevators. These are all high torque servos except for the trottle.
Am I doing the right thing?
Thanks for any help in advance guys.

RE: 6v NiMH without regulator
I have used 6 volt packs with the 149DP, 148DP, 148DF, and 138DP. All but the 138DP have two regulators in the receiver and the 138 only has one. I have not had any problems with voltage with any of these receivers. I will say that I have stopped useing the 138DP for no reason other than I have the other receivers.

RE: 6v NiMH without regulator
Running 5-cell NiCd or NiMH packs won't hurt your receivers. Futaba says they can take up to 10 V maximum without damage.
The problem is the servos. Some servos won't work well or last very long if you use more than a 4-cell NiCd or NiMH pack without a regulator. Please remember that "6 Volt" packs (5 cells), can be as high as 7.5 V when fully-charged. A 4-cell pack can hit 6 V when fully-charged. Please check the voltage rating of the servos to be sure you're OK. Servos that say they can't be used for 6 V operation are all OK on 4-cell packs.

RE: 6v NiMH without regulator
Thanks Bax for your input........I will change my battery packs to 2 4.8v 2100mah NiMh then and go fly. Don't want my servos failing whilst flying.
