9C NOT RANGE CHECKING
 

Hi,

I purchased a new 9CHF from Servo City earlier this year. I am using this tx on 3 models currently, a Sig Fazer, which I have had since 1998 with the same receiver (antennae out of the left wing), a new GP PT-19 with a known good Futaba receiver (antennae out and below the fuselage), and a new Sig Mayhem 3D with a known good Futaba receiver (antennae out of turtledeck and rubber-banded to fin). The Fazer range checks ok with antennae collapsed to 100 ft., however, both the PT-19 and Mayhem begin jittering @ approximately 60 ft. with antennae collapsed. I have replaced the receiver, battery and servos, as well as relocated them in the Mayhem, to no avail. I have also checked the range with a Hitec receiver, also with severe jittering @ 60 ft. I do not know anyone who has a tx on my channel, so I am at a dead end.

Should I send the tx to Hobby Services for service? I called both Hobby Services and Servo City this afternoon, but they are closed.

Hi AIRPLANENUTS,

Before you do, if you are using long extensions, I would try checking them. Since this does not happen with all three models, it sounds as though there is a common denominator in the other two planes.
If you are using longer servo leads or extensions, you may want to try using a filter or heavy duty leads to see if this helps you out.

Thanks, Krysta. Since these are $18 each plus shipping, can I try unplugging the servos that have the long extensions and checking the remaining servos? We're talking about $90 plus shipping, and it may not be the remedy. Am I just being a cheapskate?:eek: Also, is the filter/extension linked above heavy duty? Is there a rule of thumb regarding heavy duty leads needed when exceeding a certain length? Thanks again!

Oh, I forgot to mention that the PT-19's elevator and rudder were jittering without the wing being plugged in. The wing has the only extensions. The rudder and elevator servos are mounted beneath the cockpit. The Mayhem has an extension on the elevator, as well as the aileron servos.

I understand about the pricing, and yes, you may want to try unplugging servos first to see if you can narrow this down. Also you may want to look into just regular inline filters from other electronics sources.

Me again, Krysta! I believe I have determined that it is not the tx, because 2 other planes range check perfectly @ 100 ft. My next question is this: So that I may match the gauge of wire that comes with the servo, what gauge wire comes with the Futaba S3305 servo? I am going to use heavy-duty extensions, but different manufacturers offer different gauge wire with their heavy-duty extensions.

Krysta, I used heavy-duty leads, which in conjunction with the servo leads, I twisted from end to end. I still had range problems, so I replaced the metal throttle pushrod and nylon clevis with a Ny-rod system. This apparently was the cause of my problem, as I can range check to 100'+ with no problem.
