9vap modules. Tk Vs. Tp ?
Hi Ms. Cross,
I recently purchased a used 9vap from a friend of mine, and want to buy some more TX modules for it, however, I understand that the vap needs a different module than what my 9c uses. This one however came with a tp module, and my friend has used it for many years without a single problem. My question is: What is the difference between these modules? Technically. BTW, I looked on the Futaba site and it has a FAQ about this, but it doesn't address why, it simply restates not to use it. Dan Gellner |
9vap modules. Tk Vs. Tp ?
Hi, Dan! There are significant component differences. The key reason for not using the 8U/9C modules in the 9V and 9Z is the difference in the cases and the overall environment. The 9V and 9Z cases result in far more radio "noise" and "heat" internally, and the 9Z module is designed to operate in that environment without seeing internal damage.
Sorry that's as much as I have to offer you. |
Thanks for your response.
Thanks for your quick response, your explanation is a lot better than what is available on the site.
It kind of cracks me up. Seems that Futaba would save themselves all kinds of problems by making these modules different physically, so there was no mistaking which module went to what. And it would end the Spectra module issue as well. How in the world did their module just happen to be the same size as Futaba's? Thanks again Dan |

Dan,
The use of common parts, especially molded parts, is VERY common and very cost effective. Based on old advertising I've read, I suspect Hitec at one time planned to sell their modules as aftermarket for Futaba, but never went through the FCC cert. process to do so. |
