12z/14mz HD gimble springs

After reading the post on not using the FUTM 3640 springs I had already installed, called Hobby Services and they sent the recommended springs HSP 79241 under warranty. After checking them they are exactlly the same as the original springs, they measured.

wire size .0134 and # of coils 10

What should the wire size and # of coils measure on the HD springs???

Don't want a gimble failure :( because of a spring but sure would like a stiffer stick feel.

Thanks JK

Are they the same springs on the 6ex, as I have lost one,

RE: 12z/14mz HD gimble springs

I have tried three different sets of springs on my 12FGA. The ones from Futaba, Tower, and Radio South. I did not measure them but to me, the Futaba springs for the 12 and 14 series are slightly smaller in diameter than the heavy duty set from Tower. This is also evident when they are installed - the heavy duty springs from Tower make contact with the surrounding walls. I suspect that over time they will damage he radio. They are however, stiffer than the Futaba springs for the 12/14 series and the springs from Radio South. The set from Radio South are smaller in diameter and those are the ones I decided to use. Good luck.

JK,
I got one of the "heavy" springs today and it has the same dimensions as yours did and is identical to the originals. I shortened the spring by one coil and re-bent the loop. It gave the stick a good bit firmer feel around center which was what I wanted. I'll keep looking for a heavier spring though. The lack of response to your post from Bax and Krysta is interesting, guess Futaba doesn't want to tell us that there is no heavier spring that will work.

JK,
I also ordered a set of the HSP 79241 springs and had the same findings as you did.

What it sounds like is that you have one of the newer 14MZ Airplane version transmitters that have the Futaba Heavy duty springs already installed on it. If you compared the two and they are identical, then yours already had the heavy springs. Older versions of the radio and a spring with the part number HSP78961.

The HSP79241 is the only heavy spring that Futaba recommends for the 14MZ and 12Z due to heavier springs causing damage to the stick assemblies.

I guess I could have one of the newer Radios and if that is the case they sure have soft springs. My 14mz is 16 mo. old and the 12z is just ove 9 months. When I first called it was the FUTM3640 springs you all recomended. After seening some posts I orderd the HSP79241 springs and upon receipt saw they were the same as originals I have

I called Hobby Services and they suggested I send they originals and the 79241 and they would check them with stock on hand. They should have them today??? I just like the feel the 9z has and would like to duplicate that.

May just take my chances and leave the Futaba 3640 springs in. Thank you for the reply JK
