12FG Stick problem

So my radio is only a few months old and I have noticed some trim changes on my elevator. My rudder was also un-centering. I have setup a blank model and with everything at zero my elevator and rudder are showing -11 & -9

I'm guessing my stick is out of calibration?? (Mode 1)

Strange thing is I noticed my elevator on my jet was out of trim when I last flew it, thought it odd I had to change my elevator trim from the last time I flew it and my 50cc gasser is also out of trim. I turned it on last night for the first time in a month since flying the jet last and the elevator and rudder were out of trim.

So 2 months old and it seems like it's screwed. Can it be self calibrated or does it have to be sent away? Not very happy about this Futaba! Will I be charged for this or will it be covered under warranty?

Cheers

Jeremy

If your transmitter is only 2 months old, then yes, it should still be covered under the One year warranty.

You would need to send it to your nearset service center to be checked by them. If this was purchased here in the US, you would need to send this to us.

Okay this is getting weird...I turned the radio back on this morning and the sicks are now only -1 off zero at centre......Just my luck to get a LEMON!! I got rid of my JR gear, outfitted 2 jets and a large gasser with Futaba because I was told it was the best and my radiop can't even decide where the centre is on my stick. Luckily I'm close to the Australain Distributor at work so I'll take it down today for them to have a look at.

RE: 12FG Stick problem

Jeremy,
My friend almost lost his plane at Kentucky Jets last month due to this problem. He and I both have 12FG's that I purchased at the same time about two years ago. As he was taking off, he needed a lot of back stick to rotate and then didn't have enough elevator right as it rotated. After looking at the radio in the AFR menu(the menu that graphically shows the elevator stick position), you could see the elevator stick position was way off and it was off with all the models programmed into the radio. Major Woody who you should know from the jets forum lost two jets last year that he blames on his 12FG. He bought a new one after losing the second jet and hasn't had a problem since. Obviously this is very disconcerting. I have been using Futaba for 14 years and never had a problem with any of their radios. I love my 12FG as it does everything I need for my jets and it is reasonably priced for what is essentially a 14 channel radio. I'm not sure how many radios are having this problem but to have to think about this every time I take to the air with a 5K jet is quite troubling and most companies in general wait until there are "too" many customers with problems before recalling an item to update or change out something.

I just bought Major Woodys 12fg. I sure hope it's the second one that he had and not the first!! He said in his ad that he only used it for one season.

I'm sure he sent it back to Hobby services for a check out. Wether or not they changed anything I don't know but I do believe that he posted what was or was not found. You could check his post history and get some more info.

We'd not call it a "lemon". A "lemon" is one that has problems over and over, even after you have it serviced a few times. Getting out of calibration can be caused by different things. Usually, a drifting number for the center is caused by a loose or bad stick pot. It does happen from time-to-time.
