Default My DA50 Wont Start

Hi
Any help would be great!!
I have a 2 gallon old DA50 that has started and ran good for 2 gallons.
Today it would not start. It would only fire once on choke and then once off choke.
I did this for 30 plus times.

I have since put it on the work bench and checked spark it appears OK.
I have purposly flooded the engine to see if it is getting gas, and it is.
I just took the carb apart and can see nothing.

HELP!!!

A friend had this problem with his BME 50.

He eventually found that the throttle arm had come loose and the throttle was closed

Make sure the choke plate is seating properly. Soldering the hole closed also helps. Dan.

Could it be the red sensor?

Something else to check before calling DA.

1. make sure sparks are good and solid at the plug.
2. make sure the two carb screws are tight. Engine will not start if bad air leaks present.
3. make sure the engine gets normal amount of fuel. The engine should flood after 20 or so flip of prop.

Has the timing pickup slipped? You are describing a problem I recently had when the timing was 15deg too far from TDC. Just a pop or two and that was it.

Every one that owns a gas model engine with a battery powered ignition needs to be able to check their ignition timing or know someone that can.

Milton posted a video on You Tube that describes it very simply

Well spark is good and strong..
Carb is tight..
Not sure it is flooding as good as it should be, but fuel flows well to carb.

Still wont start after cleaning carb

Timing has not slipped. I called Desert Aircraft and they said it should start anyway even if it had slipped.

I alsovgave up today and sent it to Desert Aircraft.
Hope I get it back in time for Lake Havasu float fly

Ill post what the problem was when I get it back

Thank you all...

Hi guys,

I have been reading the various posts regarding DA50 starting and fuel starvation matters. After 6 years of ownership of a DA50, I experienced the no start issue this weekend for the first time ever.

I troubleshot the problem down to lack of fuel flow, then tried a couple of the other troubleshooting tips including going right into a fuel can direct to the carb. While the engine pumped gas up the tube, it did not do so reliably. So I suspect an intermittent problem inside the carb. I've never had one of these Walnros apart and really don't feel comfortable tearing into it. So, I guess it's off to DA for this unit. As a side note, I flipped this thing for a really long time earlier today and no luck. I also double checked my fuel system plumbing and it is in order.

Did you ever give DA a chance to fix the engine?

Will do. I did not get a chance to box it up. Business trip today. Will have to wait until I get back. Overall, this engine has been great, so I suspect a carb repair kit will be in order. This will also give DA a chance to go over the engine and give it a full checkout.
