Well I ran the DLE20 on my PT-17 Stearman today. Got 2 tanks through her with redline synthetic at 30/1 . After a bit I set the needles and am getting 7900 with xoar 17x6 prop. Thats with the smaller jtech pitts muffler installed. Next time it will be in the air after checking with cowl installed. Here is a pretty boring video from today. Come on spring.

Hi Ken

Wonder what sort of revs you are getting with the 17x6 prop? I went to hobby shop today and bought Xoar 17x6 laminated prop, or so I thought! when I got home and dragged it out i found that i had gotten a 17x10!!! DUHHHhhhhh. will exchange it next trip. its 60 miles one way throught Orlando so not going to be for a while. "tweeked" my carb settings the other day and succeeded in having my fkrst dead stick with it! another DUHHHhhh. should have learned by now to not mess with things that are working ok!.I have a new unrun DL30 setting waiting. i been thinking about the giant big stick. should be a good combo.

Bruce,
The last time I put a tach on mine it was turning 8500. I also had a dead stick yesterday,not sure why. I was doing an inverted flat spin. I normally get into the spin from a verticle climb,then cut power,give it full down and full right rudder,I add power after the plane gets into the spin.Yesterday when I cut power a little to get out of it the engine died,went down in the rough part of our field.Took out the landing gear,prop and added some holes to the covering.

Gregg,

Good video of your first run. The RPM's will increase with more run time on the DLE-20. You are going to love that combo for I sure love mine. I went ahead and ordered another DLE-20 for the new Seagull AT-6 I have coming. I like this engine so much I just had to have another one. Here is a pic of my new plane that is in route right now.

Jim,

That combo should be sweet with the AT-6. The good news is I can get to the needles without having to bend a screw driver!! I'll run it a few more times, and as long as I set the peak down about 150 from top and good transition..I'll be happy. I was just glad to confirm fuel and electrical connections for running ..and not slip and fall....lol!! Come on spring.

You'll more likely end up around 8-9lbs finished, not double.

The DLE20 should do everything you want and more.

Also; the DLE20 mounts like most glow's, on side rails.
The DLE30 is a radial mount, from stand-off's.

below are further details of the plane:
i used this website: http://adamone.rchomepage.com/cg_calc.htm

wing area: 898 sq/in

DLE-30 setup:
flying weight with the DLE 30 10.3Ib (4700g)
wing loading:26 oz/sq.ft
cubic loading 10.4

DLE-20 setup:
flying weight with the DLE 30 9.7Ib (4400g)
wing loading:24.9 oz/sq.ft
cubic loading 9.97

im still torn on which engine to get...

Read my info on matching a DLE20 to your model, in the start of this thread;
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10197929

IOW - put a DLE20 in that model and go fly it!

I have the Ryan also and I'm flying it on an old OS FS 90,so this should go like a rocket with the DLE. I hope to put one on mine some time. You will love this plane if you like old style aeroplanes and big loops and stall turns etc, a real lazy sunday flyer. Add the robo struts if you can, it smooths out the landings nicely and keeps those bouncy landings to a min. Enjoy

Not in this thread, but a couple mentioned it over in the DLE20cc thread.
None returned to state they succeeded though.[]

Only potential problem area might be in the cowl area.
You'd be mounting the DLE20 inverted (which is fine), but that cowl narrows
down in the cyl head area mounted as such.

IF it would fit, you'd likely need to do some cutting to get clearance for the muffler.
A hole in the firewall for carb choke clearance might also be needed.

Power -to- weight, you'll be fine!

I have a Rascal 110 in the box right now and a Model Tech Yak 54 also in the box. The Rascal is on the high side in the weight category, but the Yak is right in there at 8.5-10 pounds. Think this motor will fly the Rascal O.K.?

The DLE20cc will fly it fine, scale like.
But IF you want more thrust for whatever, the DLE30 might be better.

For basic flying, the DLE20cc is fine, and would be a good match!

Wing Area: 1522 in²
Flying Weight: 11 -13 lbs

WOW! It sure has plenty of wing area!!!!!!

I was going to put a Zenoah 26 with an Electronic Ignition conversion in it, but with all I have been reading in these threads, the DLE 20 has just as much power. I might be saving a little weight.

A little?

How's about this;

DLE20cc= 29.2 oz
Zenoah 20=41.6 oz
Zenoah 26=53.6 oz

Then there's the $$$$ differences too.

And just as much power? I think the DLE-20 will smoke a G26 much less the 20.

Yeah, I've got a Zenoah 20 too. When you put it that way I guess I should be selling both Zenoahs to buy another DLE 20!

They should stick those pins into all of the unused bosses leftover from their original industrial application. They are obviously not an R/C plane specific casting, so there is most of the weight difference.
