I do not have any pattern plane experience at all, how would this be for the DLE-20, or is it electric only?

It's a two meter plane and they recommend this motor . . . .

Motor Hacker A50-12S
ESC Castle ICE 100 or Phoenix HV-85
BEC Castle BEC pro or Castle BEC 10A
Aileron and elevator servo Hitec Hs-5245MG
Rudder servo Hitec 7985MG
APC 15x10E or 15x12E prop

Thats a 120 size motor isn't it?

Mine, (when I get it mid-Jan.) will be going in my GP Super Chipmunk.

It will be replacing a Saito 120 that flies it very well.

Meesh - that's a very nice looking plane. And that Saito 120 sounds like a great engine. Are you moving to the DLE20 because of fuel costs savings?

Thanks for the compliment.

I decide to go all gas.

Partially because of the cost of Glow Fuel but mostly because of the mess.

725 sq in of wing is a little light maybe? I suppose it depends on what you are expecting.

True, true, but I do want to try pattern some time and 3DHS makes such great aircraft. I guess I ought learn how to read one of those IMAC sheets first!

Happy Holidays to all of you that have contributed to this thread and to those of you that are just reading it. Please remember this hobby can be dangerous so keep it safe and watch those props. The do bite and bite hard if you do not respect them.

I had to stop work on my GP Extra300S until the Holiday is over. I will be posting some photos of it and the DLE20 as soon as I get it back in the house so I can continue work on it.

Hoping you all get what what you want and want what you get.

I hope you will return to this thread and tell us how the DLE 20cc engine compares with your Saito 1.20 in the same model. TIA

We fly all Winter up here in NH! Dracut is not that far away from Merrimack (or Derry) NH.The club pays a guy to plow the parking lot and the flying field is packed down. You are welcome to drive up and fly as my guest anytime you want! I fully intend on flying my Velox with the DLE-20 as soon as it is done (snow, rain, wind permitting).

Ghoffman,

I appreciate the invitation but it has to get pretty warm in the winter for me to go flying.

The mind is willing but the body is getting old!

Regards

Meesh - I'm in Westchester, NY, and LOVE winter flying! You just need to dress for it (long underwear, a hood), and have the right equipment (a Raydiowarm or equivalent hand\radio protection) and skis (when needed). Benefits? Not wasting MONTHS of great flying time, MUCH less competition for the field, and the experience of taking off and landing on snow! And skis are pretty cheap, and COOL. TRY it - it's a BLAST!

I agree! Flying off snow is really fun, but as of late, I've gone to fly mainly electric in the winter. The nice part about the electrics is that I can fly them in the partially finished development on the edge of town. The city still plows all of the roads in the development, so we have nice runways, and there's no noise to bother the few people that live there!

It figures that they know how to do skis in MN! They are really nice, all aluminum and very robust.

Jim,
I too am doing the P-17. Had one once ,sold to finance new project (should have kept it)..and been watching the dle20 threads...so got the arf again for Christmas!! I do appriecate you posting pictures. I was thinking of doing the Pitts muffler also. I'll get the engine next month. They do make a smaller pitts for it too, but the left to right messurments looks to be the same.

Thanks,
Gregg (Gas N Go)

WellI got my Seagull Edge 540 done tonight I had a os 120 2 stroke on it I got to start the dle 20 up this afternoon was raining outside but i opened grage door had the wife come and stand of the plane and choked it got fuel to the carb in about 8 flips and then it hit took choke off and 3 more turns and she fired right up.. Man am I going to love this thing I am hoping i am around 9 pounds on it it weigh about 10 with the os120 but i put in a smaller fuel take and took out a few more mods that i had in it that was just dead weight it was one of my first builds so I go all of that corrected and did a few other things... I made a small platform to mount the Gas Tank on right in front of the CG

so here is what I have in the Plane

Servos I have Hitec 5485 on the Elevators and Alierons and on Rudder I have hitec 5945..... and a hitec 5245 on Throttle
I have a ten Ounce Dubro Tank
i am running a 6volt 2000 mah on reciever and a 4.8 Volt 1200 mah on Ingition if I dont like the Weight these batts will go and i will put in a fromeco Lion and a MPI reg with dual outputs and run one batter just wanted to see how it would fly with what Ihad in the Shop First
I am running a Rexcel Opto Kill Swith
for a switch I am using the Miracle dual Switch with Fuel dot

this plane had almost unlimted Vertical with the os 120 I sure hope the dle doesnt dissapoint me... when i started it up today she sure did sound really Mean
Well thats a enought jabberin from me have a Merry Christmas all and here are a few pics of my Plane
