The cylinder on my Taurus has the following numbers on it ...

Front of cylinder on the base 44ZN 18 W4

Number on front of cylinder on bypass bulge 30 and below that ++44

The rear of the cylinder along the base says "MAHLE" and I didn't remember that being on there.

The fins have the distinctive rounded off corners typical of Taurus engines. I don't remember exactly when I bought this engine but I'm guessing 2004 or before and certainly not after 2005. Other than the fins it looks just like any other 3.2 Sachs cylinder I have seen .... but I'm really getting a bad case of CRS disease lately so my memory probably doesn't account for much any more!

So these two cylinders actually started out the same until someone at Taurus rounded off the fins?

I don't know if the cylinders all came the same and Bill O. modified them or like Ralph and TOM suggested, maybe they were factory modified for different saws. I would certainly be curious to know the real answer. It might be worth a call to Bill O. just to satisfy that curisoity!! Darn good engine thats for sure.

The Taurus 3.2 Cylinder looks the same as my Brison 3.2 except for the size of the fins

That Brison 3.2 was on a plane that a guy not far from here purchased. He removed the Brison to install a DLE.

I just got one of my old mechanical advance 3.2 Brisons back yesterday. The guy sold the plane it was on and the engine was given to him to fly it. 9 years old with compression as good or better than new. Plus it was just a skosh lighter all up than the original DA 50's. Still nothing wrong with a Sachs engine.

My FOX 3.2 has the same cylinder and #s as your brisson.
If I am not mistaken the Mahle factory is in Germany or Sweeden
Some of the Poulan and Husky cylinders are Mahle and a few were Girooni.

I'll trade you a zdz 50 with some new parts installed for that engine.

TOM, You have too many engines. A good solution would be to sell the Brison to me. Dan.

I notice that my Taurus has a single ring piston and the Walker Sachs has a 2 ring piston, Both have the same cylinder with the exception of the rounded fin on the Taurus.

I'm thinking, but like a Tolkien Ent it's a slow process.
