Default DA/3W/ZDZ RCexl ignition conversion kits

They are finally finished after several proto types

A complete RCexl conversion kit for DA/3W/ZDZ with no need to drill and tap for new bolts, Mount the sensor bracket in the existing mounting holes, Time the engine and you are ready to go.

All engines can be adjusted from 24 to 34 degrees before top dead center.

Attacked are all three engines with timing set at 28 degrees before top dead center.

This little project has been on my mind for over a year or so.

Just had to get the CNC router working and have someone to write the programs for me so I could cut them out.

Another little trick that has been used for minor corrections was to rotate the sensor if you need to slightly advance or retard the timing if the adjustment range fell a bit short.

Have had a lot of request for information about the material used to make the sensor bracket so I decided just to post some information about them.

They are made from low density Polyethylene that is very strong and flexible, Will not crack or break over time.

I did try different types of materials and found this to work the best. Originally was going to make them out of Aluminum but found that the aluminum could fail from vibration and crack plus would have to make them in several different radius's to work with different cc engines.

There is a grove on the underside of the bracket for the sensor to mount in, It is glued in place and is not just pinched between the bracket and the engine case, I did it this way so if the sensor itself ever failed it could be replaced without having to replace the whole sensor and sensor bracket.

I have done the "drilling new mounting holes" on both a DA and a 3W in the past and am glad to see this litttle guy. Just one question. I am no engine "expert" by any means but recall reading on the forums some problems/questions related to the air gap between the sensor and magnet being too large. Is this a concern and if so...I assume these mounting "brackets" account for that and put the sensor at the proper distance above the magnet. Without seeing the backside its hard to fully "see the design".

Thanks,
Steve

When the sensor bracket is mounted to the engine there is about the thickness of a business card gap between the sensor and the magnet.

Looks good!! A nice and simple holder. A nice snug fit around the wire and sensor even without glue. If and when I have to "mount" an RCexcel ign onto an engine....I'll def be looking for these.
