Man that sounds great!!! At certain throttle settings, it sounds quite real if you've ever heard a full size Mustang make a high speed low approach.

I am just on the verge of cancelling all my magazine subscriptions due to all the non-stop electric airplane coverage. The old saying was "Real airplanes have round engines." Now it should be amended to say "Real airplanes make noise and burn fuel."

I'll vote for whichever presidential candidate promises "READ MY LIPS, No more foam, electric, airplanes!!!"

Yes, ARFs are bad enough, but now we are being flooded with foam toys. The bad part is there are so few modelers now I don't see an end to it.

I would be curious how he has that ship hinged and the control surfaces counter-balanced to keep it from developing flutter. I saw a P-38 flying like that years ago during Scale Masters and all it took was a few seconds of flutter and one of the Quadra engines was going through the parking lot like a canon ball. Luckily no one got hurt. That Mustang is really moving! I guess the jet flyers have the same problem.

On an aside, 200 cc's is a lot of engine. My wife and I have almost 25,000 miles touring Thailand on a Honda CBR with a 150 cc engine.

Flutter of the elevator trim tab and its eventual separation was the demise of the real Galloping Ghost P-51

The Enya VT-240 V twin sounds like a radial at idle or low speed. So it ranks up there really good for sound.
Saito recently started showing a FG-84 three cylinder radial that ought to be a good one too.

Yeh, next to a blow up doll, the most idiotic item sold is the "real engine sound" speaker that they sell to stick in ones electric airplane.....If I wanted a real engine sound in my RC airplane, I'd put a real engine in it.

rigggghhhhttt, show me your 1/4 scale Merlin... The most idiotic comment I hear all the time is: It sounds like the real thing... Obviously a statement of people not familiar with the song of a RR or a Merlin. Or, people victim of the German guy (Alheimers that forgot the sound...) The sound of a weed wacker (like my quadra or zenoah) while it can be considered noise, it is not even close to the sound of the real thing...

a 1/4 scale merlin will not sound like the real thing either dude....... the merlin at 2,800 rpm has how many firing pulses per second?? Kolm 3 cylinder has how many firing pulses per second??? very close to the same that 1/4 scale merlin engine would idle at 1,400 rpm and would make any power at 2,800 rpm and even if ran at that rpm would not sound anywhere near they same. NO Model will sound excatly like the real plane unless the two are the same size........

My Hobbico Twin Star ARF with two O.S. .32 SX's (muffler baffles removed) sounds incredible in a low, full-speed fly by. Not a scale sound, but "Oh my.......!!

Show us a video or it didn't happen?

Actually, we'd just like to hear it too.

Yep, we got that one guy's electrons in a jumble heh??

I agree about the electric sound systems. What a joke!!

While what has been said is technically true, I have been around many Merlins and heard many high speed low approaches. This airplane in the video doesn't sound like a full size Mustang, except on one pass it really did sound similar. I don't know what the throttle setting was at that time, but I don't think it was full throttle. In any case, the airplane sounds great.

I once taxied out to fly at Tucson International Airport. The tower called everyone on the field on the radio and said there was a Mustang that called in for permission to make a high speed low approach, and would everyone mind waiting while he did it? Everyone from airline captains to the fuel truck drivers called in and said "HELL YES!!! LET HIM DO IT!" The Mustang flew the whole 12,000 foot length of the runway at about 6 feet off the ground and just screaming. Then he pulled to a nearly vertical line and did aileron rolls out of sight. Everyone loved it! Then, it was back to business and the controllers started issuing clearances again....
