Default DLE 20 fuel consumption

I'm installing a DLE 20 in a Champ with a small tank compartment. I could cram a 12 oz tank in, but it would be a tight fit. A 10 oz tank fits perfect. What kind of run time can I expect? Other than takeoff, all my flying is done at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, sometimes even less. Thanks for any help.

2 things. First I think a 10oz. tank would be fine for my flying, but it's not going to leave you with a lot of reserve (or extra weight).

2nd, Many/most flying gassers will install the gas tank on the CG, or maybe just in front of it if that's not possible. This minimizes the effect the changing level in the fuel tank has on CG, and there is no down side as the pumps within the carb will pull fuel easily from quite a distance. Is this the area you are considering for your install?

a 20cc gas engine will consume about .68 oz/minute at full throttle. I use 10 oz tanks for my 20cc powered planes. I think for an aerobatic plane 8 oz would be fine (generally shorter flight duration, at least for me), but I'm too anal to be comfortable with that. 10oz tank gives me a very comfortable reserve.

Last summer I flew a DLE 20 almost exclusively. I flew with a 10oz tank. My flight times were usually 12 to 15 minutes and I landed with several ozs of fuel left. I even had some flights near 20 minutes. Prop was a 16 x 8, fuel 32 to 1 and the plane was a Funtana 125.

thanks for the input guys I have plenty of room in the cabin area to put up to a 16 oz tank and it would be closer to the CG it would be about 11" from the tank to the carb would the engine draw fuel from that far? I may just try the 10 oz tank in its original location and see how it goes thanks

Yep, it will draw that far no problem. It'll take a few flips with the throttle opened slightly and the choke shut to get the fuel to the carb the first time, but after that no problem. I put all my fuel tanks back in the "cabin" near the center of gravity.

The nice thing about getting the fuel tank out of that forward section of the fuse is that it leaves all kinds of room for other "stuff", including the throttle servo, which is much easier to mount up there. Extra room often nice when balancing as well.

Because the pump in the walbro style carbs is so strong (able to pull fuel 3 ft up). I always put my gas fuel tanks on the CG or as close as possible.

Don't worry the C.G , first you rise the plane and Adjust the elevator. if you are Novice fly about 12 to 18 minutes.Good Luck!
