B&B Smoke Pump
I just picked up a used Bennett (B&B) smoke pump but I dont have the directions. I was wondering if the pump is intended to pressurize the tank and into the control valve or if it should be placed down stream from the tank, between the tank and mufflers. 1st time I have used on of these... Dale

RE: B&B Smoke Pump
Pump is actually a fuel pump from a snowmobile and is placed between
the smoke fluid source and the mufflers. The engine crankcase must be
drilled and tapped for a pressure fitting which is connected to the fitting on
the large flat side of the pump. Here's a tip, find the stiffest tubing you can
for this connection for greatest efficiency and best operation of the pump.
Obviously the other two fitting are an inlet and outlet and yes it does make
a difference as one sucks and the other pushes. It's been a long time since
I've used one of these so don't remember how they're identified. I'll look to
see if I still have one around and send more details if you don't already have
an answer. They are foolproof and work very well once installed.

RE: B&B Smoke Pump
The 'factory' tap on the DA is in the reed cage - at least on the DA-100 it is. If you're installing the pressure tap fitting into a DA make sure that the thread-depth of the pressure tap is no longer (deeper) than the thread depth of the plug that the tap is replacing. If the pressure tap threads go in too far they can interfere with the reeds.
Advice I received from DA when I asked about running a B&B pump on my DA-100. I had to file off a few threads from my pressure tap, it would have gone in farther than the plug it was replacing by about 1/32" or so.
Cheers!
