I would think that a g26 conversion from http://rcignitions.com/ would be a great match. I have one and it runs GREAT! Needles seemed a little funny at first, but that was probably me. Sweet, Sweet little motor. Thanx again Ralph.

I'm putting a 3W24 on mine. It will turn a 18x8 @ 8k. Try that with a G26. It will also turn a 18x10 @ 7500. It will out pull any 24-26cc motor out there on a muffler. The MVVS boys will have you install a pipe to get the same power. You can pick up a used 3W for around $350. Check out the marketplace.

Chris
You are probably right, never tried an 18x8. A G26 should turn an 18x6 at around 9000rpm though. You never mentioned what prop, the 26 can turn a Mejzlik at above stated #'s with a regular muffler.
G26's like higher rpms.

If you want the cheapest, easiest route.. the G26 on a Bennett muffler is the way to go.. total package $300

Of course, the MVVS 26, 3W-24, or Ralph's conversions will make more power, but you will pay more too. I chose to lighten the crap out of my plane so that the G26 would pull it around the sky with the same authority as a more powerful engine, yet it weighs so little people hardly believe it!

I took out so much weight that I actually was able to cut my wings down one bay on each side... flies the same!

I am a little over 9 pounds on a G26.. typically they run over 11 pounds. While the wings can handle the weight even up to 12 pounds, the lighter it is the more fun it is to fly!

I admit I took the extreme, but it was well worth it. Changing the gear and stock wheels alone saved 7 oz!

My conversion makes no more power, just lighter..
18-8 APC, Abell "muffler" 7800rpm...38 degrees, raining, altitude 6800 feet..Pretty close to 8000, but no cigar..Don't have an 18-10, I suspect it will not work very well, the torque peak of a G26 is at 9000, hp peak is 12,000.......

BTW Ralph,

I saw one of your converted motors last week at the field in Morgan Hill. Can't remember the guy's name but he was flying a Pacific Aeromodels GeeBee Y. Looked and sounded great.

I almost bought one of your motors for my USL, I just decided that I wanted to try a reed valve motor. Found a used one at a little cheaper than your converted motor. Personally, I would have never paid full price for the motor. You could buy a nice 50cc for what they go for new. Someday, I'll find the right model and give you a call. I do think that the G26 has the best bang for the buck.

G-26 is a great engine for this plane. I'm now using a 17/8 prop on the eng. Seems to be the best prop so far.
Pleanty of power goes vertical forever. Can slow down to a hover with no problems.

I've installed an RCS 1.80 in mine. I've had a few flights on it and I think it's gonna be a winner

I just finished mounting a G-26 to my US 120 lite. I chopped 3.5 inches off the nose and installed a new firewall. It balances right at the aft part of the spar with the RX batt near the CG
and all servos in the stock location.
I will not get to fly it for a week or two, but I would expect performance to be pretty good considering the light weight of the airframe.

BTW, I had one of the original US 120 a few years back and it was a lead sled. Engine flameouts were a scary affair. It was like trying to land the space shuttle. After hudreds of flights, It met its demise when the elevator pushrod failed. R.I.Pieces.

G-26 is a good eng. for this plane. I'm using a 17-8 APC prop seems to be a good match.
The only thing I've done to mine so far is to split the elevator and use two servos, one for each side. You can use the push-rod for the rudder for the other side of the elevator. I then installed a pull-pull cable for the rudder. I fly a lot of Giant Scale and I just like to have back up on the elevator , the push-rods seemed a little weak also.
Good flying plane and the G-26 works great.

I've got an old Ultra Stick 120 (not the lite version) with a Brison 108 CC on it.
Seems to have adequate power.
Flys great!!
Has smoke out the wingtips.

How did you get the smoke out of the wing tips?

A homemade 2 into 1 aluminum canister muffler going into a fitting over the wing which Ys into 2 3/4 inch aluminum tubes running out through the lightning holes in the ribs forward of the spar. A pressure tank system using check valves off the crankcase port and a varsane shutoff valve with a servo actuating it. Lotsa' work, but neat to watch in the air. Needless to say, the Brison 108 really pulls the ultra stick around. I run a 28-10 Mejlik cut down to 26-10. Left stick forward, and - - - Hang on!!!

Man some pics' would be nice. I have always wanted to try something like that. I am tired of putting bomb bays on planes.

[8D] Just purchased a NIB G 26. The instructions tell you to grind, cut wrangle off the stock metal arm on the carb throttle, to mount the plastic ( steering arm). I don't like this idea. Is there another way without making these mods to a new engine Thanks, TeePee

I didn't cut it off my carb. What I did was mount the plastic arm to the opposite side of the carb. where the
shaft comes out on the bottom side.

Hi
I am running a converted engine from www.gcbmrc.com , it flies it well, not unlimited vertical but for $210.00 it does a good job. I am on my third ultra stick, fun plane to fly...
