RE: 3W 106i B2 looking for people using this engine
Awesome engine, I have had 2 of them, one plain stock one, and one QS. Of the DA 100s I have had, and the BME 110, the 106 makes the best power, midrange, and top end, this is from my experience. The motor really comes alive on full length tuned pipes or cans. Never had an ignition failure in all of the 3Ws I have ever owned. Make sure they are mounted in the plane per the engine instructions. Have always had great service from the 2 US based 3W engine distributors.

The CS version is more precisly balanced, and I believe they have Titanium Wrist Pins also, lighter, smoother and more power. As stated above MAKE SURE you have airflow under the ignition box or you will have problems, I put 1/2" weather strip down each edge of the box so plenty of air gets under it, and it pads it at the same time.

I assume that is one off the issues that has made the cause for ignition if you fail to do the correct setup, like always human error is to blame for most issues : )
thanks for the reminder

I have had the QS 106 and a 106 regular. My regular 106 was actually a bit stronger than my QS, but not as quick on the transition. however, it regular one had awesome transition, the QS a little better. On any of the 3W twins, you must baffle them, especially the painted cylinder versions.

Thanks, that´s exactly what i was looking for, easy manual with pictures
I really don't whant to set upp things wrong since this is my first 100cc plane and first experience with GAS engines. I will have some time to read up on things since shipping will take some 7 - 10 weeks for my Pakage to arrive.

Hi Magnus!
Where in Stockholm do you fly? I am currently flying at f18 in Tullinge, and the funny thing is that I'm also looking at this plane and the different setups you are writing about. How are you going to order it? Directly from US?
Another option is to buy a katana from World Models, which is based on the same design (some hardware difference only). The katana from WM has already arrived in Sweden and is avaible from any dealer that is carrying Minicars assortment for approx 7.500.- SEK.
Plz, keep me updated on the process since, as I stated earlier, I'm also intrested in this combo.

Got trouble on my 3w 106i. 2 weekends ago somthing went wrong. Over and above +-3500 RPM star side cylinder goes dead, no fire. 2 cell Lipo battery is OK and fully charged. Uses 95 un-leaded 26\10 prop was perfect. Someone with experience , please tell me what went wrong. I have changed the plugs. Star cylinder (fire first) plug was black. Port plug nice grey to orange. E- mail me at fouchefa@live. co.za or post on forum.

Thanks Tired Old Man. That's just what I not needed. Could cost me around R3000.00 ($300.00) from our dealer. Think I might have to go for a Chinese brand. RCEXL have an option for $88.00. What you think?

I don't have a 106 but I had 2 stock ignitions go bad on my Taurus TS52 in 30 flights. I replaced it the 3rd time with an RCEXL and 80 flights later it's still tickin'.

Look where he's from. The exchange rate in Rand against the Dollar hurts him a bit. The CH will cost upwards of $200.00 U.S. by the time shipping comes into play. Another 3w ignition is also expensive provides a chance of a repeat failure while an RC Exl will be a lot less money and he can obtain one in South Africa.
Contact Andreas in Namibia at the following addy and phone number. He's a dealer for RCGF engines and they also use the RC Exl ignition.

Thanks Gents, for comments and replies. Andreas got hold of me. Was about to buy an ignition system from him and decided to go and check again. Got a new ignition from our shop (JMC Bloemfontein) on a loan. Fitted, started and the same problem. I put the plane on a stand (belly side up) only to see that the throttle pulled the butterfly 3/4 open. Put back on weels, started, open the butterfly further by hand. Wow, man, there she was alive and wild again. Throttle servo with a flex setup link stretched the link on the nyrod side. Too strong throttle servo. Well at least I learned to check the butterfly from all this. Only thing that bugs my mind is the one dark and one clear burning plug. Would that be timing?

RE: 3W 106i B2 looking for people using this engine
Most if not all twins suffer from one cylinder running a little leaner than the other. It is just the nature of the beast due to the design, nothing to do with timing
