Default RE: BME 115 is Shipping!!!

Hey guys,

Don't know if it's just me of the pictures, but doesn't look like a bid rectangle here and there, no round shape, it's all just rectangle, square corners ect... doesn't anyone else see it the way I do?

I'm wondering, although if this engine is between 1000-1100, he sure has my business!!

Thanks

LeBlanc

There are many rounded areas, it is just hard to see them in those pictures. All in all it is kinda stout boxy, in a good way.

Default RE: BME 115 is Shipping!!!

RTK and Ralph,

I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of this new beast. It comes with it's own "tunnel ram" intake manifold!! At 4 pounds, one ounce it's going to flat kill the competition from 70cc's up to 116cc engines! If someone is looking at a 70cc for something in particular but is contemplating moving up to a larger plane later, spending a few more dollars up front will eliminate the requirement to purchase another engine later. Of course there will be those that will find that to be a bit too much "up front" for what they are doing at the moment, but those that are money wise and forward thinking will see it as a good investment.

The new backplate will make for easy mounting and the trick front mounting hub lets whoever use any prop that they have been using that was previously drilled for some other engine. Too bad Keith did not have any faith. It would have been used on my new Sukhoi that flew last Sunday.

That's RTK doing the honors of modeling the engine for us

I haven't got around to soldering a nipple on the diaphragm plate, so I just used the next best thing until then I guess I could take the nice one BME makes off of my 110, nah

Silversurfer, how much did the 115 cost, do you know yet? Getting really interested about this motor.

Thanks

Since neither RTK or myself bothered to ask before a credit card was billed, and the only information that we have is the current charges on the credit card, it looks to be about $1,195.00 with mufflers. RTK is the one with the number on the billing so he will have to verify. Both of us have a similar problem. If we want something and decide that we are going to get it we forget to ask how much and just say send it to... I did exactly the same thing with an order placed with Don's Hobbies a week or so back. Glad they are honest folks cuz they could have cleaned out the bank

Contact Don's Hobby http://www.donshobbyshop.com/ He is taking care of all orders and technical support for BME. The other thing you will notice is that he is one heck of a nice guy and will talk as long as you want, no pressure what so ever.

I still don't know what the price is, but $1129 sounds about right with out mufflers. Keith was trying to get this engine to me as soon as possible for a new prototype plane, so no invoice was included. I am "ASSUMING" it will be priced about the same as an equally sized engine of their competitors.

Good Lord, how many more do you need? There's only one side missing and it looks just like the other side! I only took four figuring it would be more than enough, with the fourth being redundant. The side with the carb face simply shows a big butterfly over the carb opening...

It's going to be interesting to see how the "tunnel ram" will fit into the cowl of my 37% Ultimate.

Hope it shows up soon so I can find out. Plane is in the cradle ready for fit up.

The big massive air/fuel mixture flowing reed block extends about 3/4-1 inch lower than on the 110, If I remember right.
It will fit in a comp-arf extra 2.6 with very little room to spare. I measured and I hope I did it correctly, No need to have it protruding out like with the snorkel of another manufacturer.

Snorkels, nipples, diaphrams, coors and a teenage hand model, (lovely photos!) sounds like the BME115 is going to be a winner. Please report RPMs, props and quality of transition. 4lbs with mufflers?

4lbs Without mufflers, I will have to weigh the BME deverters sometime. They are not baffled, so I am sure they are very light compared to others. I forgot to mention about the whochicu too.
Awe...to be a teenager again

Today I called Don’s H.S to clear the doubt out, and they confirmed the price of $1195 + $159 (mufflers).

Silversurfer

Which is the real weight 4.1 lbs? If this weight is correct this engine is heavier than the 110, that weighs 3.9 lbs.

Please could you weigh the engine, the ignition unit and the mufflers if you have them and tell me the real weight?

Best Regards,

Adriano

Adriano--I am the one with the engine. It weighs 4lbs 1oz on my digital fish scale. The ignition weighs 5oz.

Yes, it is slightly heavier than the 110. Yes, it has a much larger carb. Yes, it has a deeper intake manifold. Yes, it is 5cc's larger than the 110. Yes, it has a one piece engine block that does not have to be split to access the crank. Yes, it is MUCH lighter than anything else out there, from 70cc's on up to at least 116cc's. Yes, it will take any prop that's already been hub drilled for a different engine. Yes, it will run a single bolt hub only if desired. Yes, it's one of only a couple engines in it's size class that will be serviced in America if needed. Yes, the service is excellent when needed. Yes, it appears to be priced similar or a little less than other engines in it's size class.

If the weight difference between the 110 and the 115 is (oh my God[X(]) too much, then get a DA or 3W for a pound plus more Or get a 70 to 80cc engine for a full pound more and buy a larger engine later[] Or get an Evolution 116 with a weight that's not advertised.

Now stop being silly and no more pictures. This is not a centerfold magazine and you shouldn't get that hot and bothered over an engine anyway

Thanks for the price update because we really didn't know for sure what it was

Good thing you two guys are doing this, if Keith did it the whole thing would get removed for "selling" on the forum (just like someone else we know)
Funny how your perception changes from engine to engine , gotta be a REAL fine line

Roger that.

You're right about one thing tho, if RTK or I were actually involved with this thing I could see some issues arising from it. There is nothing to be gained for either one of us, as Keith has already so eloquently made clear by action, if not word.

RTK has this one, I was going to have the second but had made other commitments since I had not heard anything regarding the release schedule until the day before they were to ship. It could still be done but already having mounted an engine in a new plane I have no desire to re-arrange everything to offset the weight difference. My upcoming schedule now will put off any thought of obtaining ANY engine until after the new year or later depending on location and circumstance. From this point on I'm going to be bowing out. I'm pretty certain that RTK will complete the mounting and running on his Comp 330 and get back to all asap.

Just recieved the 115. Measured weights:

Engine with plugs: 66.5 OZ 4.156 lbs
Diverter (ea) with bolts: 5.2 OZ
Falkon Ig (in bag) 6.1 OZ
____________
83.0 OZ 5.187 lbs

Carb will stick out below cowl of my 37% ultimate by about an inch. A little modification should take care of this.

Default RE: BME 115 is Shipping!!!

Wow I just had a great morning. First I went dove hunting and finished by 7:00. Then I decided to come home and run my 115.

Disclaimer: I know props and needle setting vary and really do not mean that much, but I am going to present them anyway. The engine was run at BME and needles adjusted prior to shipping. I believe Keith does this with all his engines.

After letting the engine warm at a high idle, I decided to do a quick tach on a Menz-s 27x10. (first run) With my trusty TNC in hand, it seemed to hit 6700+ hmm. I am not going to go WOT for more than a second or two with a new engine on the ground and burn it up. The next run I noticed if I goosed it there was a hesitation. First order of business, richen the low. Now the hesitation is gone. Time to slowly advance and see what mid range looks like. Wow! No 4 stroking at all, just smooooth as glass, So smooth it was almost scary. Well, since I usually like to run a couple of flights a little on the rich side, I decided to richen the high. Still smooth as glass and no 4 stroking, I richened it more. I did this a couple of times until I thought it was plenty rich. (I always do the top first, but today I wasn’t thinking) The 115 also seems to run cooler than its brother the 110.
Now time to pull out the tach again and see what a 28x10 Mejz will do,,, 6600rpm..hmm that’s nice. My 110 would only hit about 6400-6500 when leaned properly.
This engine would idle smoothly at 1100rpm which I thought was good for the first or second run of it’s life. The compression has been amazing from the get go.

I think Keith has a real winner here and I do like the 110, but the 115 does out shine it. It was truly amazing how smooth it was from idle to WOT and this was on the first tank of fuel with a little needle adjusting.

Edit--everytime I read this I find more spelling and grammar mistakes[:@] I think I will just let it be. You get the point
