And it only gets better from here on..... be sure to give a flight performance report here!

I'm about ready to order # 3 now.... just have to finalize selling the Ultimate...

Bob,

Which Ultimate do you have, and why you selling it. Just wondering, because I just bought a GP Ultimate and was planning on putting my DL-50 in it.

Just maidened my GP ultimate/DL50 yesterday. Great airplane but had problems with the DL50. I have spoke with Bob to try and straighten it out, so just waiting to see what happens before I post anymore. Alot of blood, sweat and at the end of the day tears. Hopefully will be able to post more in a few days.

I have the GP Ultimate, it is an outstanding airplane. This one is my second. Need to move on, make hangar space for something new. As much as I *love* a great biplane, I have finally crossed into the "too lazy to putz with two wings" mode of the hobby. Fact.
No other reasons.

Post #1428 had a plate made to reinforce the tabs. It would be a good way to repair the rear case after a crash.

Hi lads I am looking at getting this engine but as I am in Australia I may get my engine through Slyvian1975 and my question is I want to no I am getting the latest version of the engine so is it correct that 1- look for the new engine mount that does not have the triangle gussets, 2- version 2 cdi ignition, 3 - muffler that has rap around ends on it and not just but welded. Thanks. I only say this becouse I noticed another seller in western Australia on Ebay selling this engine and this picture of the engine had the old engine mount with the triangular gussets, I gess be cearful were you get your engine from.

I think you've got all the "new" changes identified. Good luck in your bidding!

Hi Bob, thanks. By the way after seeing your site on arristii 3 and as I was getting into patturn i bought an arristii3 and set it up just like yours with OS 160, I am very happy with it. I have just ordered a Wild hare 28% extra 300 for this engine, I am happy with the good reports so far so I will get one. Thanks and your ideas are apreceated.
I just got a email back from Sylvian1975 for those of you that are outside of the US I asked him if his is the latest version and he send me back some photos and he says they are but the photos on his ebay are old photos that show the old muffler that is wy i asked him about the version anyway the cdi is version 2 made July 07 and the muffler shows the rap around end on it so i will get one. By the way if I was living in the US I would have got one from DLUSA.

O POOP [email protected]$!$!$ I just ordered one from hong kong but due to the crappy exchange rate this week it converted to A$460 but I am sure that i looked at his engine yesterday and the photo showed the old engine mount and thats what made me suspect as I no several people on this site have had no problem with Sylvian1975. Anyway even at A$460 for this engine it sure beats DA or 3W at over A$1000 for theres (with exhost)- as long as it works, but I am sure it will.

Hi Guys!
Really impressed with the DL so far, had about half a gallon though it and couldnt resist opening her up a bit and measuring the thrust, i was shocked to see 29lbs of pull already!!!!! [X(]

Whats it going to do when its run in????

Prop is PT 23 x 8, running 40:1

Cool!!

Cheers

W

Maybe the EF yak 88 isnt big enough for it!! [8D]

I would not pay that much for a DA-50, it doesn't run as good as a DL. I'll give you 275.00

Is someone running the DL-50 with Coleman camping stove fuel?

I am about to get my 1st gasser experience but I am afraid of the gasoline fumes when carrying the plane and gas inside my car. A friend at the field suggested that I could use camping fuel instead. It is a little more expensive but I have been told that it does not smell. Nonetheless I am concerned about the performance, oil mixing ratios, break-in...
I plan to install the DL in a SD Extra 260 30% and if there is a performance issue, there may not be enough power to fly 3D.

Thanks,
Chris

Everyone has to make their own decision about fumes. I have no problems with that, as I keep the chokes closed, and plug the exhaust stack tubes when in the workshop. Of course, I drain the tanks, also. Many don't. Many have a lot of fumes. Lots of variables.

Personally - I have not run Coleman fuel, but have read posts from many with lots more experience.
Their story - basically - it ain't worth it.
Figure out how to deal with ventilation and run the recommended gas and oil ratios.

I am running two DL 50 engines on camper fuel and run all of my gas engine on it as well. One of the DL 50's has just started the break-in process and the first has been operating for few months now and is fully broken in.

The final report on the performance on camper fuel mixed at 50:1 with Amsoil Porfessional 100:1 Saber (i have posted previously):

On the ground loaded with a 3W 23 x 8 prop:

7200 RPM running on the rich side of ultimate needle setting. I try to avoid saying "a lttle rich" since some will want to dispute this.

The benefits are absolutely worth it and I will always run the camper fuel in all of my engines until I cannot purchase it anymore. I also recommend this fuel for our Toxic Racing Motors engines that we market.

-Clean engine
-Comperable power (if not better than gas)
-No odor
-Indefinite storage (fuel WILL not go bad like gas)
-Fuel requires no stabilzers ever (no matter how long it is stored)
-Carb will not gum-up and require repair if you were accidentally to let the engine sit for a long time
-Tygon fuel tubing does not go bad in the tank and require frequent replacement.
-You wash parts in your fuel!

whats a gallon of that stuff cost, and do you have to change the needle settings if you were previously runniing gas

Yes and Yes, The module should be mounted to foam and cross tied loose enough to allow some movement (don't crush the foam too much or it will get too much vibration) I just have mine surface mounted with industrial strength velcro from Wal-Mart, it works for me but I'm hesitant to recommend it because the damping may not be as good as foam. I have had just 2 gas engines (SPE 40 and DL50) and mounted both modules this way, both ignition modules have been fine. But as they say "your mileage may vary"

I use a servo on my choke but....

Stick Bender,

That is one clever way to support the manual choke rod! Using an old servo arm as a guide and support.....[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]
