RE: ANY ONE USING AMSOIL ..2/CYCLE OIL?
I have used it for 22 years in everything I own including a 3w 60cc engine. I use the new Sabre 100:1 at 75 to 1. My weed wacker is from 1984 and still runs like new. It is truly a wonderful product as are all their oils.

RE: ANY ONE USING AMSOIL ..2/CYCLE OIL?
Questions,
Can anyone name an automotive or full scale aviation engine manufacturer that recommends the stuff in writing? Has the FAA-PMA ever approved it's use in full scale aircraft? Does anyone have the full engineering specs, on a hard copy of Amsoil letterhead, to corroborate the claims of the franchisers? If anyone has the above, please fess up.
In the meantime it might be a good idea to go with oils that meet or exceed, in writing, the standards set for two stroke engine oils.

Amsoil used to make a 4 stroke product. I remember them trying to market the stuff to me when I was still in full scale aviation. There are a few manufacturers of larger two strokes that are used in both manned and unmanned aviation. Then there's the motorcycles...

I don't have a specific "oil of choice". I've found that there are many oils that easily meet the need. I shy away from oils that have been tested in specific applications that haven't been all they were cracked up to be. Higher heat levels using the same ratios as others, and even more heat at oil manufacturer specified ratios. Oils that have a high carbon build up or that develop carbon that's as hard as glass are others that I avoid. Others that show wear on the piston skirts after 50 hours of use are also no-no's.
Some that fit the bill nicely and that work out over the very long term are Pennzoil Air Cooled, Belray MC1 for ratios 50-1 and greater, Belray H1R for ratios 50-1 up to 100-1 (I don't ever suggest 100-1 with any oil) from 40 to 60-1, Motul 800 synthetic up to 80-1, Redline Two Stroke Racing at ratios up to 80-1, Stihl two stroke oil from 50 to 70-1, and Mobil Opti-1 at 40 to 50-1, Zenoah oil from 32 to 50-1.

That was a pretty fair article. One thing I liked about it was that it noted use conditions as having an impact of oil performance levels. That's something that many don't consider when choosing an oil or determining what mix ratio they will be using. Cold conditions and you can use less oil, hot conditions and you need more. No, I don't much care for Amsoil. Too many hours of continuous operations in all weather conditions has indicated that there are a lot of oils available that will do the job better in many areas and are a lot easier to obtain, and for lower prices.

Hi,
this might help. I ran this study a couple of years ago for my own purpose

The R/C internet being what is today, if Amsoil did not work at 100:1, every person involved in the R/C hobby would be hearing about it. There are people out there, who would make it their "lifes work" to make sure everyone knew.

Yep, it has to work.
I think you just take a few years off your engine life @ 100:1. Most of us are probably buying something new before that would even come into play so that is probably totally mute. On the other hand, at 50:1, most of the evidence suggests that there are just much better products that are less expensive and have less buildup on the cylinder.
But its like choosing between coke or pepsi.

RE: ANY ONE USING AMSOIL ..2/CYCLE OIL?
When I started running synthetic years ago I started with Klotz KL310 at 50-1. I don't know if this oil is better than anybodys but I still use this stuff cause its worked well for me with not one issue, so I've never changed. With that said, I personally know of several DA150's with over 1200 flights flown from cold to desert conditions running Amsoil 100-1 without one issue. The stuff works fine, hi mileage is hard to argue with..Walt

I agree with Silver on this one...
and I never agree with him.
This is also quoted right out of the Geistware article.
1) I would never use Amsoil 100:1 mixed at 100:1. There is no decrease of carbon formation and I noticed an increase of piston scuffing on the test engine.
Another article
One contributor to this article writes, "I am inclined to listen to Tom Olenik when he says that he sees a little more engine wear with Amsoil at 100:1. I also note that Amsoil does recommend increasing the mix ratio to 80:1 for severe service conditions, which may include improper warm-ups or perhaps running at full throttle most of the time."
