Craig. The exhaust components that fit the Da50 will also fit the DL 50. I buy fom Troy Built Models and they have been great to work with. Ed

Default RE: DL-50 engine

After reading through various posts in this and the previous thread [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5532868/mpage_1/tm.htm]Let's try again DL-50 [/link] I decided to order an Engine from [link=http://www.dlenginesaustralia.com/]DL Engines Australia[/link] on Monday and received it on Tuesday. If this engine runs as good as the service that I received, I will be one happy man, for people living in Australia I can seriously recommend ordering from them.

Although I know that I have received the latest version of this engine (version 3 I think), could somebody please tell mr what all the changes are from version to version, and why were the changes were made?

Thanks
Pupmeister

The changes were .... in no particular order: An upgrade version to the ignition module, an upgrade from the original cage type engine mounts to mount of different design, and finally on the latest version, an upgrade of the case mounting tabs that are now almost twice as thick as the original. Standard standoffs are supplied instead of the cage type mount, which results in an overall reduction in weight even with the mounting tabs being increased in thickness. There may be something I left off, but this is what I can remember.

I just ordered my second DL50 today. Obviously I'm very happy with the first one. In talking with Bob this afternoon, I thought it might be good to share this information.

I love my DL 50. I recently got a great price ($425) on the the other two letter 50 that has been the standard for years and decided to see how good they really are. Cosmeticaly prettier. Pick up more substantial. It ran well but went lean when inverted (All twelve flights). All the pilots present got a goood laugh out of that. Didn't die but am going to put the DL 50 back on and sell this other high dollar engine and buy another DL. Guess I should have taken tach readings and done side by side comparison.

Chuck, Are you on synthetic or still breaking in? I have the same setup and I'm getting 6950 on my xoar. Same temp and altitude. I'm running 32 to 1 Lawn boy.

Also I have a J-tec pitts muffler. Not stock.

paul5992,

I'm running Amsoil Dominator 50:1 and only have a couple of gallons through it at the most. Also, I made an error on the muffler on the engine, and corrected my post. The muffler is a Bisson wrap around. I will be using a Bisson side mount on the second DL50.

I am using the KS cannister (86V-4) with a 3W 23x8 and getting 7200rpm; that is on a fully run in engine on synthetic oil. I get mine direct from KS in Germany, but not sure if there is a distributor in your part of the world.

Here is a short clip of my RCLeague YAK54 with the DL50 - great engine, just putting engine #2 in an SD-Models 30% YAK.

Trying to start a little activity on this thread. Since it was closed and restarted their hasent been much posted. Here is my latest DL 50 mount. Choke is manual as per pull handle comming toward the front. This is held in check by a wittled down servo arm (hitec). Installed the opto remote cut off LED in the center of the servo arm (should be able to see the on light in the pictures) this is from a post by aerobob in which he installed about the same. Will provide more as the work moves along. I finally had one of the poor fitting spark plugs that were talked about on the last thread. Went to NAPA and ordered a box of 10 NGK CM-6 plugs, these are the ticket to a better fitting plug and I think I will be happier with the brand name.

Ed your right about the NGK plug fitting better. I bought an NGK CM-6 and it fit tight. Its not the head that is loose its the cheap sparkplug that comes with it.

Yep I find that the NGK plug fits much tighter than the original. The original leaked even when torqued down, not so with the NGK.

Ed,

Nicw mounting job. Looks like you put some fiber glass on the engine box. Did you just do the joints or did you do the entire box. It's hard to tell from the photos.

Thanx Rich

took some new picture but my computer wouldn't take them. Ifiberglassed all the outside and inside corners. sanded the edges smooth and installed the aluminum angle. went back and covered the engine box inside and out with resin.

Well, it sure looks strong. Where did you get the aluminum bracing?

Rfabbre,

Any decent Ace, True Value or similar type hardware store carries this aluminum angle stock in various sizes.

He's answered multiple emails from me...but if he's busy getting engines ready to ship, maybe you should call him? Either way he has always responded. Good guy, never in a hurry to get off the phone.
