I cant remember the brand of oil used for break-in. It was some mineral oil for chainsaw or some other tool. I mixed it with 98 octan gasoline 1:30. I didnt use a temp guage but its winter now and the engine wasnt overheated, i could touch the head without burning fingers. I used 22x8 biela prop.
But as far as i know bearings dont need any break-in. Can anyone tell me if i have to send my engine to the seller or can i still use it? It doesnt make any sounds during its running. Only when i move the crank shaft with my hand.

I'm not suggesting that bearings need a break in. My DL's make noises when turning them, if really slow turning, it's before top dead center, and sounds like rod bearing end play. Haven't had any bearing issues, but I believe the bearing is a pretty standard size, and maybe easy to replace instead of sending to your importer?? Is the bearing leaking around the outer edge at the crankcase, or the inner race at the crankshaft?

Hey Guys,
here is my latest project, a OMP Hybrid Edge 92 wing span weight in at 16lb 10oz. Should fly great with the DL up front.

I have a MVVS Prosport 58 in mine. What a monster! Mine ended up at 16 pounds 7 ounces.

Im not sure where it leaks, but its even hard to be called a leak
Its only a little moisted. Crankcase is dry as Sahara. Damn, first gasser and such a bad luck.
Im not sure if i can manage replacing the bearings, if something goes wrong my warranty is gone. And then another engine? Boring breaking in? I think ill send it to my seller and let him worry about it- its his problem.
Edit:
i'm just back from my basement. Wanted to take off the engine and send it to seller. I feel like a fool, but on the oither hand im very happy
There is no play at all at the main bearings, the only play is somewhere among the piston, connecting rod and the crank shaft. It is less than 0,5 degrees of crank shaft turn and as i know its absolutely normal.
Thanks for all for help!!

Okay, started the DL up again today. I still can't fly but was able to take some tach readings. I leaned the low end some more and my idle seems very reliable at around 1350-1500. My high end seems to float around 7100. The second run the tach was telling my 6600 though. Engine seems strong. I might have to lean the HS a bit but right now the engine seems to be very smooth.

I got five more flights on mine this weekend and finished up the first gallon of fuel... Lawn slushy 1:32. Going to switch over to synthetic next time out. What should I expect in the way of tuning when switching over to synthetic? This DL hass been running so good I almost hate to change things up. BUT... I am sure the switch over will be good all around. Its just a tad rich on the low end and I think the top end could be tweeked a bit also on the current fuel. Tachs 7100 top end and idles so slow that I have to throttle up landing the Ultimate.

That is probably rod-end play, either at wrist pin, or crankshaft pin, and a certain amount of that is "right". Difficult to describe, but "some" is okay. That "click" is probably at TDC as the rod changes from the "up" to the "down" movement on the wrist pin. Glad you found what you did.
Wayne - whatever the mixture, or type of oil, I think a good idea is to optimize the adjustments without getting too lean, just as a general rule. Sounds like yours is really putting out the ponies.... glad to hear it!

What size of fuel tank do you guys have and what are your flight times??? I'm still trying to decide if I want 24 oz tank - or maybe slightly smaller????? going to run smoke on the plane(GP PITTS) as well and it will go WAY faster than fuel.

I turned on mine for the first time today, it ran great, i had everything a bit rich, but i was quite pleased with it. i barely have roughly 32 oz/ through it of 32:1 lawnboy/gas. ill post a quickie video i took of it.
*edit* http://youtube.com/watch?v=wI_G7X9eDVc its nothing special(the video)

My motor is still slightly rich with 2 gallons through, so i would expect that consumption to get better.
I am also running a tuned pipe on the DL with a 23 x 8 mejzlik

I have 2 gallons of gas with the Lawnboy mix 32:1. I have run 24 oz thru on the ground and will fly with the next engine run. I'm getting black oil out of the muffler--hope this is normal.
I have not twisted the needles yet. Engine ran great during first run. Easy start. My plans are to use a gallon of the lawnboy then switch to Bellray at 50:1. The amount in the Bellray container mixes 5 gallons. I'll use the rest of the Lawnboy in my chainsaw, weedeater, snow thrower and leaf blower. When that's gone all those tools will get the airplane fuel. I don't want to have multiple gas cans laying around.
Just need to wait for decent weather to fly.

Just a comment about running when new..... after that first tank or so, I have found that it is much better to PROPERLY adjust the needles, both of them, for the prop and plane you're using, without getting "over lean". Letting these run too rich for very long is not good on things....
Mine have been happiest when I tweaked 'em early for optimal transition, smooth idle, good top end.
Some black is expected when rich, depending on the oil, and that's been my tell tale for running rich. I use Pennzoil Air Cooled, but expect other non-synthetics would do the same.
Cleaner running is better overall, adjust to suit your preferences.

Wavy777- Is that a tuned pipe or a canister system? Which brand is it and did you have to cut the header length to tune it to tour engine?
Thanks

Look under 'sets' on this website to see if your aircraft is there (mine was no.551), i also bought the mount system too, which worked a treat.
