Default DL-50 engine

Folks, as you are by now well aware of, the other thread has been locked down. There was too much to try to clean out and still keep the thread readable.

So I am starting a new one and I am asking that all the political stuff and other rule violations be kept in check.

Yes, I own one, love it and find it very easy to work on and work with. Will I buy another you bet, do I care where it came from, yes to a degree. I waited until there was a US distributor so that if I ever needed warranty or support in general I had a much better chance of achieving this goal.

I can definately vouch for the great support we are receiving from Bob Kramer as I'm sure many others on here can.

I just had my second stock exhaust failure. The down spout on the muffler has broken off on two seperate mufflers. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think I am going to go with a tuned pipe setup. Does anyone have any opinions on running the DL-50 with either the KS1060 or the ES Composites pipe?

With the stock muffler I was getting 7260 RPM on a Vess 23A. With a tuned pipe I might have to jump up to one of the new Xoar 24A props if I can find a dealer.

It happened to me yesterday in mid air. Got louder and by the time I landed it was still on but the can was cracked in several different directions. I would love to have a tuned pipe although my plane has plenty of power as it is. I still have my first original muffler that was crashed on take off to use while getting another muffler. Can any one tell me if a DA muffler is thicker/sturdier/worth the extra money compared side by side?

I believe they are thicker material. I know of one guy using his DA and has never had a problem. They also have a smoke nipple. I'm getting 7400 on the Vess 23A. If you go to the 23B you'll get less rpm and more power.

What do you think about running a 24A?

Are you trying to intentionally ruin this thread for everyone here that is enjoying a well made, exceptionally priced engine that performs at the top of its' class? I'm sure you can find a more appropriate venue to vent your frustrations over foriegn manufacturing.

I think I would go with a 22b or 23B first. Just my opinion.

yes, if anyone is running this on the ES pipe be sure to let us know. What is the average idle RPM you all are using? I do 1350-1500 on my Brison for a low idle prior to bumping it up on a mix for flying.

Bill, Sorry you had to shut down the old thread, know you were doing your job and you had given warning. Thanks for your support in starting this new one, there was alot of good info being put on the thread. I especially liked new ideas and safety issues. The old thread had some info and pictures on the new engines to be released. I believe there was one post about DL having a 100cc and 150cc in the works. Thanks again Ed.

I use a 4.8v 2700 Mah for the EI and a 6.0v 2700 Mah for the Rx. Just always have. Don't know that you need more then about a 1400 4.8v for a days flying though.

Ed, I talked to Bob Kramer last week and DL is definately coming out with a 100cc soon. BTW You can still read the old thread, just not post on it.

Thanks for your help Bill.

Ray, I have several different set up in different aircraft. I have one set up with lipo 2400 mah with regulator. Another with 1600 nimh 6V, no regulator. Both work equally well on the DL. I have also used the 4.8 volts on some SPE engines, good results.

Bill, we flew the Aviation Models Extra 260 Sunday with the Vess 23A on it. Two inches of ground clearance. LOL You wouldn't believe the difference it made in the plane. Locked in much better then before. Uplines straight as an arrow and unlimited vertical at just over half throttle. I'm dying for someone to try a 23B on one.

Hey Aerobob, I checked and my tuning video is still accessible on the old thread. Over 100 hits!!! Man, I love technology!!!! I'm not sure after all the commotion it caused last time but here goes.

For all of you guys with DL data and oil mix questions (or any questions) here's the authority to reference thanks to AeroBob Pastorello

It's even sweeter in the air knowing your engine isn't going to die no matter what maneuver you perform!!!

DL # 3 in a GP Yak, almost done. DL #1 is in the Cap, #2 is in the PW. All are running like sewing machines. I have no desire to even try any other 50cc engine at this point.
