Default Wolf Predator 1.8 Info Needed

I am looking at a Wolf Predator 1.8 to put in my 1/4 scale 231EX. Does anyone know anything about these engines? Here is the link to their website so that you can get the specs.

I am looking for someone that has actually put this engine in a plane. Please reply. Thanks

A fellow brought a new Wolf 3.2 to our club meeting last night. Looks OK. I don't know who's cylinder and piston they use, but they cast their own crankcase. It uses a crankshaft setup similar to the Taurus with a rear bearing. Probably a chainsaw crankshaft. A sideport engine. Comes with the CH syncrospark ignition and Bisson Pitts muffler. I'll let you know how it runs when he stuffs it into his plane.

Default Wolf Predator 1.8 Info Needed

Snowfly, for about $10 less money, I'd go with the ZDZ 40RV-L. It's 2.4 cubic inches as opposed to the Predator's 1.8 cubic inches and makes a LOT more power than the Predator. Both engines, with ignition, weigh about 3.25 pounds.

The February, 2002 issue of Flying Models magazine has a story on the Midwest Extra 300XS (80" wingspan) that they powered with a Predator. They said that it ran well with no problems.

A gasoline 1.80 puts out similar power to a glow 1.20 to 1.40 two stroke engine, but it weighs over a pound heavier.

I'd go with the ZDZ, or maybe a BME 44.

Default 1.8 PREDATOR

Look at WEBB site for the 1.8 Predator engines. ZDZ40 data is easy to find. Thanks , john - P.S. Is there any more data on the 1.8 -like actual experience.

I have a Wolf Stinger 1.5 on glow. Got a really good deal at a swap so price was not a issue. On the sixth 10 oz tank on break in I had a 7400 rpm reading with a 18/8 Zinger prop. Hand starts, a pretty!! good engine

Default 1.8

How about 7700 on an MA Simitar 19/8, 5500 ft
Still breaking in. Using a Abell side muffler. Starts by hand after 2 hr.
