Guess I'll wait for mine to go out. Any tell-tale signs of impending failure or will it just quit running?

Just quits, could fly just fine then the next time you try to start it it's dead. Sometimes they will emit a high pitch humming noise, that's deffinately a dead module.

I purchase mine from Hobby City for my conversion engines. 31.92 for the module and 12.00 for the sensor...

MMAP price for RcExl ignitions including sensor is $79.95 shipping included. Good luck getting help if you need it from HC, I've heard good and bad.

What? Are you saying that the engine I just bought from you guys is coming with an ignition that is unreliable? How would I go about getting the newer, better ignition parts?

Lately I have had quite a few fail or they don't work right out of the box, they are all warrantied through your selling dealer. The factory has just released a new version that is supposed to more durable, comes with a new sensor as well.

If you bought a 40 from us, it was ran with the ignition that comes with it in the box, so no worries.

Danh4, use your telly.

Hi Fellas:  Today the FedEx truck delivered my engine back from Jody and pretty much all that is original from my kit is the CDI, Muffler, and Carburetor.  It will be into next week before I'll have time to run it and will give you a report then on how it goes.  Even though they didn't sell the kit to me, Valley View R/C stepped up to the plate and took care of my warranty issues on this engine.  That's outstanding service in my book.  If I had to do it again, I'd buy the engine directly from them and save myself a lot of hassle.  [8D]

Ran this engine in the plane today and it ran good. On the third start it ran in reverse, and did it a few more times. I would have to stop the engine and restart a couple of times until it ran the right way. Seems like it might be a timing issue, but once it was running the right way, it sounded and flew good.
Maybe just bouncing back off the next compression stoke, and may get better as it breaks in??

Any suggestions??

Both of mine do that to some degree. The gas here in this area is not the best so I started using high octane and that has helped. I retarded the timing on my first engine but I lost toomuchtop end performance. Try differant throttle settings when you start it and find out what works the best. I think you find out its more of a minor annoyance then anything. I won't say that if one of my starts running backwards in the air!!!!!!!!!

Rocky, Glad you got yours back! Great service from Jody!

I found that if you start it with a little higher throttle setting and give it a good stiff flip, it starts the right direction about 95% of the time.

Mine does that too.  It will do that 4 out of 5 times before starting in the right direction.  I was going to adjust the timing a bit but it sounds like that doesnt do any good.

I know this isn't the right thread, but I need some help.  I took up my CMP Yak 54 140 today, it has the 40cc kit and runs great and has plenty of power.  When giving it a little input on either up or down elevator it acts weird, with up input the plane climbs till no end and never levels out, it is same on down input. My dad has flown for over 30yrs and has never seen a plane do that and doesn't know what causes it or how to fix it.  any input would be great or point me in the right direction, thanks

check the servo's travel for over shoting, make sure the elevator moves freely.

The only time ive ever seen that is when the plane was not balanced correctly. Check the cg and see what you find.

Also make sure your servo's are returning to center.

Finally got my 40cc into the air today but not without some frustration.

I have been chasing a good tune for two days and it wasn't until I decided to try a smaller prop that it  tuned up for me, on the ground.  I was running 20x8 beechwood Xoar and no matter what it would bog on throttle up.  Changed to Xoar 18x8 and finaly got good transition on the ground but once she was up it sounded bad and felt pretty underpowered on my 74" GP Extra 300s at around 14 lbs.  Only got two flights in before I broke the prop on landing and I didn't have a spare.

I'm not sure if it just needs more time to break in or if I have a dud.  With the 20x8 I got about 6300 rpm and slow transition.  Forgot my tach so I didn't get a reading on the 18x8.  Doesnt matter though as I would really like this plane to run a 20 inch prop.

Should I just give it more time on the 18x8 or maybe 18x10 and see if things improve?

As i stated in past posts my 40cc does not like a 20x8 at all. My edge was a pig in the air with the 20x8. I have been flying with an 18x8 ever since and dont plan on changing back.

I have thought about maybe going to a 20x6 but havnt done it yet.

I have been using Zinger 18x8 props but i broke my last one the other day and the hobby shop was out so i bought a master air screw classic 18x8 instead.

I havnt flown the MAS classic yet but i will let you know how it goes.

O.K......hold the phone. I am complete retard.

Dont pay any attention to the comments i made about what props work good on the CRRC 40cc.

Let me tell you what i just found on my engine. I have been having trouble with my engine wiggling around on the stand offs that i made. I have a freind in Orlando that has been in the hobby alot longer than me who wanted me to send pictures of the way i had it mounted. He was gonna give me advise on a good fix.

So i took the cowl off and took some pictures and sent them to his email. Then i dismounted the engine so i could take more of the firewall so he had all the info he needed to help me.

Now that i had the engine off i decided to check all the bolts and stuff to make sure nothing had worked loose since i built it. Then i noticed something wierd with my carb. There was something hanging out between the adaper and the base of the carb.

Well after further inspection and disassembly of the carb from the motor i found that one of the carb gaskets had slipped out position while i was putting it together and it was almost completely blocking the intake bore and also i could tell that it had been leaking air.

So to make a long story short.... I have know idea how this engine is gonna run now that i have correctly installed the carb. Since i have about 15 flights on this engine at this time.

I am sure i will have to retune it.....It may run like a whole different engine.

I have a 20x6-10 that i am gonna try....I will let you know how it worked out
