The same engine that turns a Dynaflite 22-10 @ 7400 will turn only 6400 with the MSC 22-10..

I was afraid of that Ralph...I noticed right away the example I have is heavier, thicker and wider than others I have. Thanks for the heads up.

Lot's of experience with the MSC 22-8. Yep, the rpm numbers are lower than anything else but the prop pulls better than anything else. Not a speed prop but 3d's like an animal. And yes, I have tried the Vess props. No contest, MSC wins in 3D big time. No spool up lag at any speed. It's all right there, right now.

Hughes, If you look at my post from 9/17 above, you see the # your looking for the rpm post was to answer a question about how many r's I was turning to get that thrust #. By the scale I was using, I was getting pretty close to 32 lbs thrust with a Vess 23-A, 50:1 gas oil ratio at approx 1100' ASL. I hope this answers some of your questions.

Why are you selling it?

I purchased it to put in my Chip Hyde double vision which previously had a DA 50 in it, wanted more power but the MT 57 is too long and I don't want to reset the motor mount
and I can't stretch the cowl. The motor is exactly as I got it. I would love to run it in my plane. This is a good deal, letme know if you want it, I will get it out immediately.
I am willing to trade for a DL or equal.

You can get smaller standoffs, you can even make your own!
I would seriously try and set it up, you will be glad you did!

Gentlemen I thank you for your offer and have a question. If I put smaller standoffs on the motor the carb will be inside the motor box, will this cause any problems?

That may actually be to your advantage as long as you can access the carb adjustment screws. It eliminates a large portion of diaphragm pressure issues.

I have the Double Vision also, and the carb is in the box. no adverse affects that I can tell. Tired Old Man is correct. With my Yak, I had to solder a fitting onto the diaphram plate and run a hose back into my fuse to get rid of the presure problem in the cowl.

Ditto what the others have said, no worries!
I adjusted my low end needle once after the first few runs. Adjusted the high end needle after the first gallon. I would imagine I won't have to do much for awhile now!
Glad to hear you're considering it, now just do it

I am just finishing up the installation of a MT-57 in a 83" Sky Shark P-40. I got in on the first batch from Larry ( yet to be run) which included the Chinese spark plug and the improper timing sensor. Is the proper plug a NGK BPMR 6a ?? Does anyone have a picture of the new sensor they could post? I have timed engines before and it looks like the best I can do wallowing out the plastic mounting tabs is about 10 deg BTDC on slow hand cranking . I am assuming this is a retarder ignition like C&H so I am still off by 20 or so degrees. I hope to get it started for the first time tomorrow, weather permitting.

Yes the plug is the BPMR6A. The replacement sensor looks the same. What is done is it is inserted at an angle internally to advance the timing. Once changed it will enable you to advance the timing to well over 30 degrees. I have mine set at about 28~29 which is the lowest mine can be set now with the replacement sensor.

Thanks Super08 for the info. I have since modified the original sensor turning the sensor on its side. Pic 1 shows the molded sensor keeper removed. Pic 2 shows the sensor removed from the holder. The sensors shrink tubing had some sort of weak glue holding it in place and was easily broken loose with a small screw driver. Pic 3 is an old drill bit ground to a rectangular shape and inserted hot to deform the holder enough to allow the face of the sensor to fit sideways and now be perpendicular to the magnet. Pic 4 is the sensor installed in the holder. The white thing sticking out is part of a Q-tip that will be glued and trimmed to hold the sensor in place.
I can now advance my timing!
Thanks again...

I got to run the MT57 today. 6200 rpm with a TBM (Troy Built Models ) 23x 8. Its a pretty wide blade prop. Larry @ LS Pro thinks they make great paint stir-ers but they were 2 for 1 pricing and they make a lot of wind. I have my timing set @ 30 deg BTDC. I'm sure it will pull the P40 right along..

Tom, The sensor is on the way. Soarich ran those props on the MT57 and the RPM was REALLY low, BUT the plane flew great, and pulled like a stump puller. So RPM static on the ground really does not mean to much.

Tom, if you get the chance, try an NX 22x10 on your warbird. I'd be surprised if you ever looked back

Tom:
I am running a XOAR 23A on mine. When I first ran it I was getting 6200 RPM. I was quite upset with the results until I found out the timing was wrong (around that time I think there was some spoon feeding involved). I am running my timing, if I remember correctly at 26 degrees. After the first 2 or 3 flights ( 6 minutes max on a 16Oz tank) I adjusted the 4 cycling out of the bottom end, flights went up to 10 minutes RPM increased to 6500, after the first gallon at 32:1 I tweaked the high speed needle and reached just over 6800 RPM. I have ran two gallons through mine now working on the end of first gallon at 40:1 and my 17.5 Lb Sukhoi is a rocket with 12 minutes flights. I will be adjusting for max RPM in the spring. A few other gas engines were unable to reach the same RPM with the XOAR 23A. I am really enjoying the MT now. I receive many compliments on the easy starting of it, the great sound and the obvious pull.

There is more to come for you yet!

If you are running the offset sensor and dremel the slot just a little you can get as much as 35* out of it. We are running as much as 35* and picked up some more RPM. But you MUST use high test gas, to get the gain. I really do not think you need the extra
power as the engine is already a beast. But if you are a tinkerer and like to play, the engine will respond to much of the tunning tricks. But remember if you go to far the engine will rebel and not be user friendly.
