Default DL50 Smoke muffler

I'm getting a DL50 for Christmas to put on my Hangar 9 Extra 260. I'd like to put smoke on it and is looking for suggestions for a least expensive smoke muffler solution that will get the job done and has worked well for you. Any suggestions?

You can make almost any muffler into a smoker by drilling a small hole in the muffler near the inlet, tapping in the 8-32 threads, and then installing a fuel nipple fitting like this one.

Actually don't tap it near the exhaust port...

I have converted the factory muffler to smoke on my DL 50 using the TBM smoke fitting... Works great...! But don't install near the exhaust port.. You will flame out your motor with the pump on and at low RPMS. If you move it near the exhaust outlet of the Muffler itself you will be much less likely to cause a flame out...

Other than that don't waste your money on a after market Smoke Muffler. Total invested in mine was 8 dollars to get the smoke Fitting from TBM and 10 bucks to have the local fab shop weld up a bung on the Muffler for the fitting...

Have fun!

I drill a smaller than called for hole and then tap for an 8/32
Then install with JB Weld on the threads and then cover the
fitting with JB Weld...
The DL mufflers are quite thin so a little extra holding power is nice,,,
