RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I think it was 325. What was yours?
I had one of the DL 30's that would not stay running at anything below 2200 Rpm when landing or when flying knife edge at that throttle setting and then rolling the plane back to upright it would die, so i sent it back got my money back and now I will try out the Syssa.

My order was 318, hope I might be getting mine, that would be great !! I did a little reading on the DL 30 and its issues , was really suprised considering how good the others did. I had a couple engines I was looking at but the SAP 180 was the way to go for me.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I think I'm 303..... But didn't look to check. If that's not it, it might be 313....pretty sure there were two 3's in the number.....
Okay, just went and checked...I'm 303.
I'm REALLY looking forward to getting mine now, not so much because I want it, I really NEED it now since I'm doing the build thread on the Pac Aero Monocoupe. I'm not running out of things to do other wise....YET. But I'm probably juggling and stretching things out a bit more than I'd like to.
It starts here:

I think the combination of this plane and the Syssa engine are going to be legendary....and a lot of fun.

I think you should plan a little more Turkey into your post-T-Day menu. It's un-American to NOT do that. Don't forget the gravy.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
That would be proportionate to removing 7 feet off of a 30 footer. Quick-figuring in my head without checking, that would be about 22.5 inches clipped off. I'm sure the closest bay to 22.5 or 22- would do the job just fine. The idea is to keep it to the next bay longer than that.
For instance, mine is not exact scale, the span is just about 69 inches. That's about 21 off of a scale 90 inches, or just over 10 inches per wing end clipped.
I'm building mine here, and powering it with the Syssa 30CC....

Drop in! It's a really cool plane. The build should be a lot of fun, some good modelers are contributing.

For you guys wanting prop turning info on this engine there is a very active thread discussing just that on the Pattern Flying forum.

Any input would be great, but most of us do not have engines to give input. If you have one please post some info. Most of the rest of us are just talking about what we plan on putting them in.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Copied from Ed Alt's post in Pattern. The following rpm is with the engine running a ES40G tuned pipe.
APC 17x12 Std blade: 8200 RPM 19.5 lbs static thrust
APC 18.1x10 Std blade: 7700 RPM 20.5 lbs static thrust
APC 18.1x10 wide: 7400 RPM 20.4 lbs static thrust
APC 19x11 Std blade: 6400 RPM 19 lbs static thrust (Proved what we expected -way too much prop!)
APC 15.75x10 3 blade 8200 RPM 21 lbs static thrust (Prop is a re-pitched "Lockhart special")
APC 17x10 Std blade 8900 RPM 22.3 lbs static thrust (Not enough prop, obviously)
Vess 18x6 wood prop 9300 RPM 26 lbs static thrust (Yep, not a pattern prop)

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Lets get real here....Must be numbers from ThrustHp...No 18-6 prop on the planet will give you 26 lbs thrust at 9300 rpm...18 lbs MAYBE....26 is closer to G62 numbers, IMPOSSIBLE to attain with a small engine, piped or not...
I will pay $1000 US dollars to anyone who can send me ANY 30cc class model airplane engine that will show 26lbs static thrust, measured with a scale on the tail wheel of my Phaeton 90 bipe.....Pipe or not...
Anyone ????

Until then it's all speculation and planning on what plane, what prop, and all the rest. At least we all stayed for the picnic. Whenever something REALLY pertinent is posted, the "custard' stops and we all listen, and we listen intently.
I've got a build thread where I'm juggling balls and everything else trying keep people interested while I wait. I finally had to bypass the engine-installation part because it didn't arrive this week...again. Now I have to mount the engine when it comes, and rather than flat while the plane rested on its fin I get to do it with the firewall vertical... It is certain to be LOTS of fun, perhaps even more fun than custard.
"Custard" isn't really what I would call my idea of fun, especially right now.
Sorry...I'm crabby right now....

From there, and after flying the engine several times since then, I think that Todd has the basis of a really great engine but it isn't quite where it should be yet. And .... I'll leave it at that. If serious modelers want to take the discussion further, I'm here to comment.
Frankly, this thread has turned into so much social babble .... very little discussion of Todd's engine.
