Yeah, I saw that. I have an idea who it is. It's nice to have friends who keep track of you, don't you think?

Golly, now I can start my day just knowing that somebody went to the trouble to do something just for me!

What a wonderful world!

I'm not saying the engine will not turn an 18-10 at 7800rpm...It will...
ANY 18 inch prop with a 6 inch pitch, even at 10,000 rpm, makes only 22 lbs thrust...ANY SIX pitch prop....
A Mejzlik 18-6 at 9000 rpm makes a little over 17 lbs measured thrust...
A piped G26 turns 10,000 with the same prop....
I have a DLE30 here, and a tuned pipe...It turns an 18-8 prop at 8300 with the STOCK muffler...I have a Mac's Products tuned pipe, already tested it...forgot to write down the rpm, will do later..
Maybe Todd know the thrust, I'm quite sure he has not seen 26 lbs....
Todd ????
FWIW... I had Todd's engine in my hand at Joe Nall, told him at that time to send me one..If he remembers and has an extra, he will..
Ralph,

Certainly you recognize the difference between thrust from a specific prop at a specific RPM when measured at sea level when compared to your 6700' elevation? There is about a 20% reduction in thrust that coincides with the 20% drop in density altitude. A 20% increase in thrust takes your 22# at 10k rpm measurement up to just over 26# if measured at sea level under the same conditions (temp/pressure/humidity) as at your shop.

(Quick note: RPM drops very little when moving from sea level up to higher altitudes, but thrust drops precipitously. There is a big difference in "power" between the two altitudes but my engines turn the same RPM within 150-300 rpm - likely due to humidity changes).

Could be...Hard to believe that a 30cc would fly the same plane as a G62. ...A 62 pulls a spring scale 28 lbs in Phoenix with a 22-10 Zinger on it...A G26 running an 18-6 at 9000 pulls 17+ lbs at the same flying field on a smaller airplane....
Phoenix is about 1000' ASL.....

I'm wondering if Todd is taking the opportunity to correct the issues discovered with the first batch.... Only thing I am aware of is the muffler gasket blowing out. My priming problem does seem to have been a loose fuel line. I have been so busy with work I have not fixed either issue. Yesterday was the first day I have flown in a month I think...

Flew my SAP180 powered 10.2 lb. Funtata125 today, great combo, unlimited vertical and excellent slow speed,I like to putt around at times and the Funtana had very little tendency to stall. The engine ran great, was easy to start and not real loud w/muffler inserts,in fact was noticeable less noisey than the DL50 w/canaster muffler that was flying today. After 30 min. running time there is a noticeable increase in compression over the very good new engine compression. The down side was I had the muffler start to loosen due to the gasket compressing.I wrecked Todds beautiful safety wiring job taking the muffler off to replace the gasket with hi-temp silicone.Did my best redoing the safety wire, pretty much hidden when in plane though.Looking forward to this weekend to get some more time on this engine. I haven't flown my SAP180 yet. I'm thinking it would be best if I removed the muffler before first flight and used hi-temp silicone? Does everyone have issues with the muffler or is it just a limited number of owners? Is this intrinsic to the first production run on the SAP180?.

Regards

I had to remove my muffler when I mounted the engine so I destroyed Todd's pretty safety wire job even before I ran the engine. After flying the engine over two weekends, my re-attach with Loctite and a very light coat of Ultra-copper sealer is still nice and tight. The muffler does seem to run quite hot though .... probably because of its being behind the engine. I think cowl air ducting should also consider airflow over the muffler on this engine.

Prop is a Vess 18-6,Penz air-cooled @40-1,turns 8100 w/muffler inserts idles at 1900-2000,maybe a little rich yet,35-40 mins. on engine.Sure it will improve with more running.Rich

Rich,

Lean that sucker out to within 100 rpm of peak, your engine will thank you for it!

Here is a copy of the fire wall layout. Be sure to turn the scaleing off when printing.
