At 54 and 20 + north wind it was not as bad as others weather, but not my flying weather!
So went in shop to play, take the numbers as they are.
HP ULTRA @ 40/1
Around 1 1/2 gallons of gas.
Vess 18/6

The high # 8320+ with 17 lb pull.

Hi,

Off the top your head, does anyone know the weight of the muffler inserts & clips? If not, I'll pull them and weigh them.

BTW, the all up weight of the Funtana completed is 9.15 lbs. This is going to be a rocket going vertical . Throttle management is going to me a must! I haven't flown it yet but I'm willing to guess it will hover under 1/2 throttle. This coming weekend will be the first opportunity to fly it, unless the weather goes sideways.

Bad Wx is forecast for the first few days this week, so I won't start the motor until Thursday evening.

Regards

Chuck

The weight of the inserts is hardly anything....probably not even an ounce for both of them with the o-rings and stainless retaining clips. I can weigh them Monday morning...
That is about right Chuck...my 11.5 pound Yak hovers a little less than half throttle...and I have about 2.5 pounds more than you to lug.

Soon! the plane is almost built...but no time to finish as we're making motors. Kind of ironic...

Todd,

Thanks for the information. Yep, I'm going pull those puppies out. Less than an ounce but every gram counts. For what I'm doing, ya can never be too light and never have too much horsepower.

Chuck, when you fly, where will you fly? Up there or down here at the basin?

Got mine.

Looks great, the work is incredible. Can't wait to get it going.

It was missing a hardware pack that held the mount bolts and the ball-links for the throttle. That is coming right along behind it, with the seals for the banjo smoke fittings.

Joe,

I'll fly up here. There's still plenty of open space. Just drive to the east side and instant runways......

It's plum chilly here, we had to wear a jacket today!

Maine is supposed to get 12" to 20" later this week and this weekend, I just talked with a friend from there who told me that. Of course, he has a snowplow that he makes money with so maybe he's just having a case of wishful thinking!

The BEST thing we ever did was to use regular water floats to fly off of snow. They're MUCH bigger than skis and made to take it. If I were ever going to fly off of snow again like we used to do in Maine all the time, I'd use the floats. Just a suggestion, of course.

And, uhhh, probably would affect the flight performance just a tad....LOL

How do you constrain the floats from going tip down? I just bought some Dubro skis for my Ultra Sticks.

Ditto on what the guys are saying about using floats on snow. No problems with them digging into the snow because they are so long they support the plane with no tendancy for it to nose forward. That and the front is curved up enough to keep it from digging in.

With skis, the skis just ride the countour of whatever they come to. With floats, Up-elevator (and airflow) lifts the front of the plane and the floats with it. And the floats are many times the square inches of the skis, so they stay on top better.

OK, in the summer, what do you do with a tail dragger in the water with floats on the main gear?
