I put the maiden flight on my DRI last Thursday. The plane flew very well with this engine. The engine however did not unload as I had anticipated. I swaped out the 20x8 prop for a 18x8 Xoar Beechwood prop and it seems much happier. It is pulling 7500rpm. I will fly this combination next weekend if the weather will allow and see how it performs. With the 20x8 the engine sputtered on the vertical line of a loop for just a moment. I just ran the 18x8 and held the fuse vertical for a bit and it didn't change RPM.
Later!!

DLE 30v2 50 degrees, sea level, Installed in 70 inch wing span BH FW190.

Master Airscrew Classic 18-8 8,450 rpm good vertical, good speed (2 blade)

Biela Three Blade 17-10 6,000 rpm, level speed good but very limited vertical.

I think the Biela Three Blade 17-10 is too much prop. I'm going to try a Xoar 18-8 Three Blade as that is what Valley View RC recommends for a DLE 30 in this size warbird. The plane is light for a warbird this size, 12.4 lbs dry. The 18-8 two blade gives it more than enough thrust but I think the rpm is too high when unloaded. I have ordered the 18-8 three blade for Valley View and will report my findings.

Hey guys. Im building a balsausa fokker dr1 1/4scale. I'll be using my dle30. I will be using the xoar axial scale german prop from xoar. My first choice would probably be a 19-8 however for some reason xoar isn't making this prop in any 19". so either an 18" and not sure of an appropriate pitch or a 20-6 or a 20-8. BUSA says the plane is 13-14.5lbs so realistically about 15-16 lbs.

Obviously I dont need too much speed but I'm not sure what to go with and a 20" in this line is $46!!! OUCH, lol its as much as my 27-10 xoar on my dle111... :-/ Needless to say whatever prop I get I'll have to live with for a while. So I'm hoping for an educated choice...

twn, Ihave a 1/4 stampe bipe with a dle 30. I'm using a 20/6 zinger (the original wide blade with the straight cut tip and it works well so you should be ok with any 20/6

DLE 30 v2. Xoar three blade 18-8. 6,600 rpm static. 46 degrees, sea level. Less than I expected but the BH 190 at 12.4 lbs flys ok and looks good with the three blade prop.

I broke the Xoar 18-8 three blade prop on a gear up landing. I tried an 18-10 Xoar two blade prop. This prop turned 7,000 rpm and very good performance in the air with the BH FW 190. I now have an Xoar 17-8 three blade. I have not had a chance to fly the plane, but it turned 7,200 rpm on the ground. This should be right in the proper rpm range. I think the Xoar 18-10 two blade is the optuim prop for this engine/plane.

More prop data for the DLE 30 in the FW 190.

Xoar 18-8 Three Blade. 6,600 rpm. Flew ok, enought power for all manuvers etc. Looks good. Unforturnately had a gear up landing and broke the expensive prop. Looked good and scale.

Xoar 18-10 Blade. 7,000 rpm. Very good power and thrust. This is the optimum prop for the engine/plane for performance I think.

RCGF 17-10 Three blade. 6,000 rpm. Same as the Beila 17-10, it just cost $25 less . Didn't fly it..

Xoar 17-8 Three blade. 7,250 rpm. I have not had a chance to fly it, but seems to have good thrust. Should have good performance with scale look.

I'm using a single bolt conversion for the APC props. I hear it's necessary. i'M getting 9k with a frank bowman ring and a apc 18/6W
Spool up is insane

Hi all
just a question: i would like to test a MA prop on my DLE30 , but it has only the shaft hole: not the 4 bolts holes.
how can i do the test? should i have to drill 4 holes? what about safety?

thanks
Alessandro

Props only come with the one hole. You need to drill the others yourself. If you are talking about a plastic MA prop I would highly advise against it. They are not made for multi bolt gas engines.

forget the Master Airscrews, drilling them weaken the hub and you can catch the blade very soon, Wood is Good on gasoline, APC way too heavy, so dont go there

Spool up is insane of course, because its not enough pitch with 6 inch at that size W or not, go 19X6 wood and you got and Engine working, not just screaming for help

Look into a single bolt prop adapter. There are several sources, and they work just fine.
