FPE 2.4 has Black stuff and oil in exhaust
I am new to gas engines.
I have a FPE 2.4 in a H9 Cap. The engine has about 10 flights on it. The engine seems to run ok, but I'm getting a lot of black stuff coming out of the exhaust pipe. Is this normal for a new gas motor? I'm running 92 octane/ no ethanol/ Bell Ray MC-1 oil.
Thanks

Most of the posts I've read say to stay away from Hi-octane gas. Use only regular gas and your favorite oil mixture.
Tha black stuff in the exhaust could be burned oil or wear from the engine. I would try to tone down the gas and oil mixture a little, go with manufacturers recommendations.

You'll always have some black oily exhaust, but you'll probably see more during the first couple of gallons as you break it in. It'll lighten a little later. A rich engine will be messier too. Kurt at FPE recommends Hi Test gasoline.

I had the same problem with the 2.4 as well as a Brison 6.4 I called Harry at Brison he recommended Amsoil racing 2000 premix. It is recommended at 50 to 1 he said 64 to 1 which is 2 ozs per gallon runs great on that mixture and engine is very clean and no black stuff. He advised most modelers use way to much oil and to much oil can actually cause added heat and carbon build up. Also i always use High test fuel 92 octane it smells a little cleaner than regular.

Black oil is caused by running rich for breakin which is normal. It's from the gasoline running at a rich mixture as in your cars tailpipe when the choke is on, not from the oil. After its broken in and running at the proper mixture there will be no carbon in the oil. The oil should come out honey coloured.
