RE: DLA 112 ???
T.O.M.
Sounds like you had a change of heart. I formed this thought from your posts on a couple of other threads. Anyway, I have one coming and I'll not be able to fly it until late spring or summer. Building a 120" stick and it will take a while.
Cheers

RE: DLA 112 ???
Never had a change of heart. I've never supported the DLA brand in any way.
The only place I recall commenting about them was in another forum and I don't recall those comments to be favorable. I have concerns about a company that might be sitting within a few blocks of the one they copied their product from trying to get in the game and under sell the original brand. I don't know they aren't pulling rejected parts from a dumpster and assembling them for sale outside their own country. Polishing up an exterior only makes them pretty, not run reliably, better, or longer. Same effects to be had with a little powder coating or anodizing, which has been used to generate sales with some other low quality Chinese products. It's what's inside an engine that makes it do the work. Those same components are what determine if it will work for a long time or only a short time.
I'm certain everyone will be interested in seeing how yours worked out a year or two after you put it to use and get a lot of flying hours on it. I am not aware of any continental support structure in place for their wares at the moment so I hope you don't need any "customer service". However, if parts are available anywhere there are numerous people that could handle the work.

It's come to my attention that a comparison/review will be performed using the DLA/DLE55 engines shortly. Can't tell who's doing it but in my opinion it will provide reliable data. Unfortunately it would take several weeks of continuous running to develop information useful for the longer term.

Yes, that is the one. Ought to be fun. It was supposed to be here today but Fed-Ex evidently got confused between north and south and sent it back north. We'll see what happens next.

RE: DLA 112 ???
majora,
I'm not going to delve into all the sordid details, but based on the inspection report of the 112's half brother, internal/external quality along with run performance, you might want to be on good terms with a machine shop, and have a source for carbs nearby. However, if the price was about half of a DLE you could eventually come out to the good.

I messed up with reading the title of this thread. I thought that it was about the YD-A. The engine that I have coming is a 112 YD-A and Henry ran it yesterday and says that it is good to go. We shall see. I have a series of Sticks starting with the 40 size, the 1.60 size and now the Stick 85. I am old enough that I need large airplanes so as to see them.
Thanks for all the good advise and yes, I have a machine shop close by that I am friends with.
Cheers

RE: DLA 112 ???
I was referring to the DLA. I'm steering clear of YD-A comments until a bit later if I make any at all.
The DLA that was checked out had a prop hub run out in the double digits with a prop shaft adaptor that had almost double the hub amount of run out. There was more but that is enough to eliminate an engine from use. The prop induced vibration would be just terrible and there would be nothing the average modeler could do to correct it.

RE: DLA 112 ???
Not to be rude, but for the life of me I have not been able to figure out how a thread specifically directed about information for a DLA product was turned into a YD-A information forum. There's a tread about a YD-A/DLE comparison, and I believe a thread specific to YD-A already going.
