im allmost certain if someone had a real lightly built 33 percenter considering this engine will most likely swing a 26 to 27 inch prop,,but i agree this is perfect fo our fairly large 30 pct planes,, we just need to find a way to fix that cap overhang ,which has been noted allready,,the ilttle ,well made mufflers for the 70 fit extra well ,and even a slim underbelly type cowl will be fine,,like most of us 50 cc class areobatic fliers ,,,i would rather manage power ,,than look for it,,,also i still had to add a hair of weight as opposed to about 1 / 1/4 pounds with the 57 and canister setup,,,,so im replacing dead weight ,,with uasble power,,,ps this little beast is way stronger and smoorher running than any 50 cc single..and im a show me proof ,,kind of person,,its in my plane now.....

If all that hangs out is the spark plug caps then thats not to bad,I think that most guy's would put up with it.

I think there is supposed ba a slant plug version of this engine as well. I would like to know if this engine would fit in the cowl of the Hangar 9 Carden Yak, I think that would be a real nice combo. One thing I would like to see offered by the factory as an option, is a Y manifold so you could use a single cannister as most 50cc planse are set up for a single can.

measure your cowl,i believe yours is bigger than mine,,only the cap on the left needed clearance, and it really dosent look bad,and from reading this post the slant plug setup is in the works,as well as the header setup,,i really liked the canister setup with the 57,,maybe ill add a pic of how my 70 looks, all cowled in....

its exactly 270 mm,,just do the conversion into inches and add 1/4 inch to be sure ,,ill most likely post a pic,but im worn from work today ,so maybe tomorow,,i just knew this would be the only issue that really would cause concern,,ive heard that the extreme flight planes have slightly larger fuses but its just finre in my no name yak,, i was lloking at a da 170 yesterday,,i allmost thought i was looking at my 70 loll.

I am very interested in this engine. Has anyone run it engine yet?? If someone has, how about a good report on performance, prop, rpm etc. I would appreciate it very much as I'm getting ready to buy an engine for my new plane or could someone point me in the right direction to get this info besides going to Tommy's web site.
Thanks Much Bill

just click on my name to access my pictures,,i currently do not own a tachometer and may order the rcexl unit that plugs into the provided ignition unit (cool feature) plug, also spiral plastic spark cable protection no standoffs none recommended,,,hard wood blocks are preferred and inexpensive,,,, mine runs strong smooth and starts easily as expected,,theres more thrust than youll ever need if going 30% aerobatic,im not a dearler but compared to a da 50 at close to 700 bucks after taxes and shipping and the muffler ,which dosent come stock,,this is a huge deal,,,they all shake at real low rpm because of combustion ,but this one gets realsmooth as you accellerate,,its got a real nice throttle curve so apparently careful carb matching was done ,considering walboros are hard to get linear response, you can run from a 22 to 25 or maybe a 26 inch prop and if you read the posts youll see i have run videos on youtube, under channels, norm53,, its user friendly and just be prepared to change the choke and throttle arms ,, you need to mount the carb and reed block use loctite and install a pulse tube ,and it dosent hurt to check all engine bolts before mounting ,and put antisieze on the prop bolt ,it comes with real compact polished well made mufflers, and off brand cm6 type plugs,, 3 bucks each at napa for real cm6 oh yes use antisieze on your plug threads too the threads are tight when new ,as opposed to the loose ones on dl brand engines,if you have room and like to manage power instead of looking for more,,heres your motor,,,,2 into 1 header for canister in the works...

im getting 18.7 lbs ,and to stay within the upbeat nature,,its not the engines fault ,im sure ive added a pound of reinforcement and glue and a few ounces of nose weight, over its original out the box setup,i cant even remember the manufacturer ,all i know is it cost 350.00 with shipping from china,i didnt want to spend 775.00 for a plane from china through a us dealer ,blame it on the economy,so back to the mt70 ,,,im conservatively estimating more than 2 to 1 thrust at approx 4600 feet asl,i would expect somewhere around 40 pounds,or more,,of thrust at sea level on a cool day with a 25 inch prop after full break in ,,,now the stock mufflers are very well made although a little loud ,,not an issue where i fly ,and im looking forward to the 2 into 1 header so i can use my c65 cannister that mtengines sells because its really sounds cool allmost like an electric at idle ,so my usual dry lake,,flying spot,,is currently a real lake ,and im looking at black clouds now ,,so ill have to settle for the alt. site .

40 lbs thrust might be a little optimistic

yes i agree 40 lbs may be because i dont live at sea level and dont have a fully broken in engine,,im only guestimating,,,a 3/w 100 cc with a 26 x 10 will give you approx.54 pounds of thrust,,so even though optomistic,,no where near impossible,,this is only speculation so please dont think im an expert ,nor do i claim to be,but ive been a modeller over 40 years and into gassers over 12..

We tested at Calico the few times El Mirage was a real lake...
A 24-10 @ 7000 is about 40 lbs thrust...

[X(]and el mirage is a mud pit right now ,,yeah i could go to calico but to be honest i could fly a half mile from my house, theres plenty fairly large open flat places here ,i just have a preference for rabbit dry oops wet lake,,its like the rc ,ers dream spot ,even full scale planes drop in and some have even pulled out models or even offered rides, and even though we use common sense ama style self governing ,its all free land owned by us taxpayers,so ill either fly at one of the spots soon for sure ,,maybe ill get someone to hold the camera as well. i speed read and didnt realize it was you ralph hi,,, i also forgot to mentoim ive met some real talented fliers and met people like col.bob thacker and smokin joe mc bride and joe bridi and even re connected with people i hadnt seen since i flew control line in the 70s that place has had huckfests ,flying cirkus flyinins races company sponsored events and yes ralph theres no reason that mt70 cant easily produce 40 plus pounds ,maybe not on everest but at the beach .....

I have a AJ Slick sitting in the basement waiting for an engine. This is what I am considering getting the 70 for rather another DLE 55. What do you think? It sure should have enough power with a 24" prop but I am a little worried about the engine weight and the old complaints about the MT 57 running rough. Where did you order the engine from and how long to get to your door step????? Thanks Bill

the twin boxer is the natural smooth runner,, theres several ways to have one run rough poor intake or timing or a bent crank or off center situation,,the 70 cc twin does adress those concerns directly,,mine came fast as they hit the distributor ,at mtengines,,what i would do is contact tommy or any mtengine dealer to see if any are in stock they are selling like hotcakes and i havent seen one person in this or anyother thread with complaints ,the first batch that came to usa were out the door before they could settle,,and it will swind a 25 inch prop with ease if you use one,so mine came from mtengines usa, its real clean and not looking so generic like a dl looks and if you look at a da 170 ,you allmost think youre looking at a mt70 ,so its up to you as a picky modeller ,,im satisfied.

Xoar 23- 3D -B 7100rpm .engine brand new with only 30 mins running . need more time to break in . suggest use 23 -10 , or 24-10 prop to fly your plane
